In just six weeks between January and March the region saw a record three tropical cyclones and two tropical storms make landfall. Sarah Kew, from the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute and participated in the study, said they investigated the influence of climate change using 34 prediction models but data gaps made it difficult to determine the full impact of increasing greenhouse gas emissions.

With torrential rains continuing, Antananarivo's rivers are rising and officials are urging residents to leave low-lying areas of the capital and surrounding areas. The tropical depression has moved across the Indian Ocean to the African continent, causing strong winds and rain in northern Mozambique. The storm hit Madagascar over the weekend after the island had already experienced several days of rains, the National Office for Risk and Disaster Management said. Several rivers that have flooded the capital are still rising, officials warned.

(CNN) - Two of Ireland's youngest convicted killers have been sentenced for the murder of schoolgirl Ana Kriegel, with one of the teens receiving life in prison. Boy A, as he was referred to during the trial, was also found guilty of aggravated sexual assault and was sentenced on Tuesday to life imprisonment, with a review period after 12 years. "A healthy 14-year-old girl, with her future before her and her short life should not be defined by how she died. Life without Ana is no longer a life... it is a misery we must endure for the rest of our lives," she said. During the trial, it was revealed that the schoolgirl was bullied in the months leading up to her death.
Devastating storm rips through southern Plains
Storm system Ana has put tropical storm watches in place for the Carolinas. It will create a wet weekend for parts of East Coast. Meanwhile, the Plains are under another threat of violent weather. An apparent lightning strike caused a gas well to explode outside Dallas. Adriana Diaz reports from Oklahoma City.
