Downtown Orlando bartender excited to welcome regualrs, staff following pandemic and protest curfews
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. On Monday night, bars in downtown Orlando were allowed to be open longer than they have since the middle of March 2020. Mayor Buddy Dyer lifted a curfew for the downtown area of Orlando, that has been set at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on selective days since last week. Over at the Embassy Irish Bar in downtown Orlando, bartender Michelle Worrell told News 6 that she is excited to make changes to their employee schedule since more people will be able to get back to work. We are just excited that the curfew has been lifted and its back to normal hours," said Worrell. Another bar owner told News 6 that Monday nights are typically slow in downtown, with some bars not open during normal schedules.
Orlando officials lift 8 p.m. curfew in downtown Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. โ Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced Saturday that the 8 p.m. curfew in downtown Orlando will be lifted Sunday. Officials had originally decided to enforce the 8 p.m. curfew in downtown Orlando as demonstrations swept throughout the streets. According to officials, the 10 p.m. citywide curfew remains in effect until further notice. During a news conference, Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolรณn said a majority of the protest and demonstrations that take place in the city are peaceful. Lake County issues curfew until further notice
Lake County officials announced Sunday a curfew is in effect until further notice. The curfew will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., which starts Sunday evening. โWe stand with those peacefully protesting the tragic death of George Floyd and we fully support the rights of our citizens to express their outrage over this situation,โ said Lake County Commission Chairman Leslie Campione. โBut we condemn vandalism, violence and lawlessness that is causing great harm to communities across our country. To protect our citizens, businesses and first responders, we are imposing a curfew throughout Lake County which starts tonight at 10 p.m. and ends at 5 a.m. until such time as the curfew is lifted.โ
Osceola County to repeal curfew enacted to prevent the spread of COVID-19
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. โ Osceola County leaders announced Thursday that they would, in conjunction with Gov. Ron DeSantisโ order to reopen Florida, repeal the countyโs existing curfew on Monday. โBased on advice from our sheriff and other law enforcement agencies, we felt that removing the curfew on Monday would best serve our community as the stateโs plan comes into place,โ Osceola County Commission Chairwoman Viviana Janer said. DeSantisโ latest order, even as our Osceola Back to Work committee remains committed to a framework that works best for our unique circumstances. At the time of the announcement, the Florida Department of Health reported 478 coronavirus cases, 128 hospitalizations and seven deaths as a result of the respiratory illness in Osceola County.
Orange County and Osceola County implement curfew during coronavirus pandemic
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. โ The coronavirus pandemic has shaken up daily life in a way we have never seen. In the wake of new cases and the urgency to halt the spread of COVID-19, Orange County leaders and Osceola County leaders have decided to implement a curfew for those living within the county beginning Friday night. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said that the curfew is necessary to keep Floridians safe. Other exemptions for the curfew include Central Florida workers like medical personnel, government personnel, first responders, security personnel,โ Demings said. The Orange County Sheriffโs Office will enforce the curfew going forward, according to Demings.
