This final full moon of the year is named the “cold moon” due to it usually happening close to early winter.

Astronomers say better catch this week's supermoon.

A supermoon and its proximity to Earth plays an even bigger role on our tide cycles than a traditional full moon.

Central Florida will have a chance Tuesday night and early Wednesday to catch a glimpse of the moon and the partial eclipse as skies are forecast to remain partly cloudy through the evening.

If you’ve missed any of the celestial events that have happened this year already -- the Pink Moon in April or the recent solar eclipse, to name a couple -- you’ve got one more chance to witness a rare supermoon this year, and it’s happening this week.

In the pre-dawn hours Wednesday, the moon will be eclipsed by Earth’s shadow.

The moon is putting on quite a show this week with a total lunar eclipse.

On the heels of April’s full “Pink” supermoon, May’s full moon will also be super on the evening of the 25th.

Many Central Floridians got a view of the first supermoon of 2021 on Monday.

If you go outside and look up, you’ll see a supermoon, the last one of four we’ll see this year. If you miss the meteor shower on Tuesday because of the bright supermoon, stargazers might have another chance to see the shower just before dawn next Sunday. This year, the Eta Aquariid meteor shower coincides with the supermoon on May 7.

ORLANDO, Fla.- – March’s full “worm” moon will be a supermoon, meaning the moon is full while also in perigee, or closest approach to Earth. Monday’s supermoon will appear to be the second-biggest full moon of the year. The March full moon is referred to as the worm moon because the ground begins to thaw and earthworms soon reappear for spring.
