As such, they need to understand that they are held to a higher standard and need to behave like it,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. Leaders in Volusia County are warning voters of incorrect mail-in ballots. Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis said the warning is for those in precincts 638B, 816A, and 816C. We discovered the School Board District 2 race was inadvertently left off of ballot styles for a precinct split in the district, Lewis said. House District 26 was only placed on one ballot style when it should have been on another, officials said. I take full and complete responsibility and promise that everyone who has received a vote by mail ballot will receive a corrected ballot in plenty of time to vote in the Primary Election, Lewis said.

Jobless Floridians wishing to receive unemployment benefits must now log on to the state’s unemployment website every two weeks to affirm they are still unemployed, a requirement that has some fearing a repeat of computer problems that originally plagued the benefit application process. To minimize the number of users overloading the state’s unemployment computer system called CONNECT, last month Gov. Ron DeSantis temporarily eliminated a requirement that claimants must regularly return to the website to verify their employment status. Even though Lewis has received several unemployment benefit payments, she is concerned that issues with the state website will make it harder for her to collect future payments. Lewis is concerned that potential computer problems will hurt jobless Floridians and make it difficult for the state employees who are trying to distribute payments.

The koala that gained fame last week after being rescued from a massive wildfire in Australia has died. According to CNN, Port Macquarie Koala Hospital made the decision to euthanize Lewis, named after its rescuer’s grandchild, on Tuesday after inspecting his wounds. 1 goal is animal welfare, so it was on those grounds that this decision was made,” the hospital said. Lewis' story went viral after video showed motorist Toni Doherty running from her car to help the koala near Port Macquarie as the catastrophic fires that have ravaged New South Wales burned all around them. Doherty named the koala after one of her seven grandchildren.
