OCPS hosting virtual fair for parents and students to learn about over 40 magnet programs offered
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — With magnet school application season here, Orange County Public Schools is hosting a virtual fair for parents and students to see more about what magnet programs are being offered. OCPS has 46 magnet programs offered in 33 places among elementary, middle and high schools. Some of the programs include University High School’s Performing Fine Arts, Lakeview Middle School’s World Language Academy and Maxey Elementary School’s Visual and Performing Arts. You can see a list of all OCPS magnet programs here. If there are more applicants than the number of seats available in a specific program, students are selected through a lottery.wftv.com

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — University High School won the 2022 People’s Choice Competition for the state architectural award, the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects said Friday. A panel of Florida architects nominated UHS in June as part of the AIA competition, which featured 14 chosen Florida schools. Volusia County parent starts petition for outdoor graduation ceremony
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. Many seniors in Volusia County celebrated their graduation from high school by having car parades while they wait for the day to formally walk across a stage. Thats what Michael Walters daughter did who was a senior at University High School. Walters said he was against having this year's graduation ceremony at the Ocean Center and created a petition to change the venue. He needs 1,000 before it reaches the Volusia County School Board. Walters' daughter Nancy said she also wants her graduation ceremony to be moved and is happy that her parents are taking action.

The Orange City council unanimously denied the preliminary plat for a 148-lot subdivision that would have had a major impact on traffic and the existing neighborhood near University High School. ORANGE CITY The City Council unanimously denied the preliminary plat for a 148-lot subdivision on Westside Parkway, a stones throw from University High School. Watts said the current plan included using a private, gated roadway to prevent motorists from taking shortcuts via West Holly. Teen girl arrested in connection with stabbing, deputies say
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - A 16-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with two stabbings at Dewey Boster Park on Friday, according to the Volusia County Sheriffs Office. Adults also participated in the fight, according to deputies. A 15-year-old and a 17-year-old were stabbed, with the 15-year-old suffering the most serious injuries, deputies said. Package with resignation letter prompts scare at University High
Deputies say this package from a former employee caused a scare at University High School. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - A duct tape-wrapped package containing a resignation letter and laptop from a former employee caused a scare at University High School Friday morning, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. Deputies were called to the campus around 10:15 a.m. when the package, which was addressed to the principal, was delivered to the school's main office. The area was evacuated and a lockdown was put in place as the Sheriff's Office bomb squad investigated. An X-ray showed the package contained a resignation letter, a laptop and other items from a former employee.
Orlando-area students participate in walkouts in wake of school shooting
Walkouts were reported Wednesday at Hagerty High School, Lake Mary High School, Oviedo High School, University High School in Orange City and Lyman High School, among other schools across the state. Video showed students sitting on the ground outside of University High School in Orlando chanting "What do we want? Officials from Volusia County Schools said more than 2,000 students participated in a walk out at University High School in Orange City. Seminole County School DistrictWhile the district isn't organizing the event, officials have been made aware and school administrators have been notified. The principal at University High School in Orange City estimates more than 2,000 students participate.
