Truck strikes, kills worker in construction zone on SR-429 in Orange County, FHP says

Fatal wreck happened on exit ramp to West Road

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 22-year-old Sanford man was struck and killed by a construction truck early Thursday while working in an Orange County construction zone, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened at 12:25 a.m. on the State Road 429 Road exit ramp to West Road, which was closed for a planned project.

The FHP said a 62-year-old Apopka man was backing up a 2019 Kenworth truck to release materials onto the roadway and didn’t see the Sanford man, who was walking in the center lane.

The back of the truck struck the Sanford man, who was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, the FHP said.

The driver was not injured and remained at the scene, according to troopers.
