Sergeant with Orange County Sheriff’s Office behavioral unit joins Trooper Steve On Patrol

Trained clinicians to ensure calls are assessed with care

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has introduced a new initiative that involves placing a trained clinician inside its communications center.

This clinician will be available to handle calls related to mental health crises or substance abuse, ensuring that each situation is assessed with care and professionalism.

The sheriff’s office says it allows for a more effective use of resources, ensuring patrol deputies are dispatched only when necessary. The clinician can provide resources and referrals, connecting callers with healthcare professionals and credible information.

For Wednesday’s Trooper Steve On Patrol, we spoke with Sgt. Jason Gorberg and Clinical Manager Jessica Rivera of the Behavioral Response Unit to hear how this new program is being implemented.
