2 men shot to death in Altoona
LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Two men were shot to death Thursday evening in the Altoona area, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said. Investigators said someone called 911 to report the shooting that happened around 9 p.m. on Pennsylvania Road, in the northeast part of the county. Once deputies arrived, they discovered the bodies of David Thomas Mikell, 34, of Umatilla, and Shane Eugene Clements, 41, of Altoona. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 352-343-9529 or Crimeline at 800-423-8477. When Ortiz ran from the area, police told The Altoona Mirror that officers found him on a fire escape. That was when he climbed onto the roof of a building and began throwing items off the roof at officers, including a toilet and a can of paint. Police said Ortiz broke through a window into the building, and officers arrested him inside.

According to deputies, Gregory Vincent Devon Heverling left his home at 19912 Rose Road in Altoona on Feb. 11 around 11 a.m. and hasn’t been heard from since. Heverling has been diagnosed with dementia, recently suffered a stroke, and is dependent on medication for diabetes.
