UPDATE: Atlantic High in Port Orange lifts lockdown, no weapon found
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – One Port Orange high school was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after Volusia County School officials say there were rumors of a weapon on campus. As of noon Wednesday, the school district said the lockdown had been lifted and no weapon was found. The lockdown at @SharksAHS has been lifted. — Volusia County Schools (@volusiaschools) December 16, 2020Law enforcement was on the scene around 10 a.m. Officials said it did not appear to be a valid threat. There will be additional law enforcement presence on campus as a precaution.
Volusia County School Board explores ways to improve graduation plans at Ocean Center
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. The Volusia County School Board discussed on Tuesday how to accommodate more families who want to attend next months high school graduation at the Ocean Center. Three people per student were going to be allowed to go to graduation, and that was upsetting enough because some of us have larger families, Bjorge said. "We're hoping that Volusia County as a whole comes together and makes the right decision here," she said. Volusia County School Board Member Ruben Colon said he sympathizes with all the families and is part of Tuesday's discussion. I wish parents would know that we truly, truly want them to be there to celebrate with their students, Colon said.
