Chilly weekend across Central Florida, rain chance increases Saturday night
ORLANDO, Fla. — Saturday will start off chilly across Central Florida with temperatures in the 40s and 50s. ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Sun Belt champs from Troy beat the Conference USA champs UT-San Antonio 18-12 Friday in a Cure Bowl thriller. 24 ranked Trojans forced five turnovers and scored 15 points off of those takeaways to erase the Roadrunners’ 12-0 lead. Gunnar Watson fired a 12-yard strike to RaJae’ Johnson in the third quarter for the go-ahead touchdown to make it 15-12. This is the only bowl game between conference champs. Troy will end the season at 12-2 and will be ranked at the end of a season for the first time in program history.

25 UTSA 18-12 in the Cure Bowl on Friday to finish the 2022 season at 12-2. Troy scored the final 18 points of the game after UTSA took a 12-0 lead in the first half. UTSA got the ball with 9:06 to go after Troy kicked a field goal to go up six. Troy, meanwhile, was in its first bowl game since winning the Dollar General Bowl at the end of the 2019 season in current West Virginia coach Neal Brown’s last game with the team. The Trojans then beat Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt title game to set up the only bowl game of 2022 between conference champions.

ORLANDO, Fla. – For its third and final bowl game of the 2020 football season, Orlando hosted Northwestern and Auburn for the VRBO Citrus Bowl. Camping World Stadium previously hosted the Cheez-It Bowl and the Cure Bowl in December. This game, like all the bowl games in Central Florida, required major adjustments for safety precautions, including social distancing markers, limited seating, and masks required throughout. “I think these bowl games, although an economic impact will be felt, the broadcast to the country about how Orlando is safely open for business,” he said. “I think it is a powerful message.”Capacity inside the stadium was capped at about 20%, which amounts to about 13,000 fans.

Liberty (10-1) took the lead on Alex Barbir’s 44-yard field goal on the first extra possession. Coastal Carolina (11-1) got a huge break in regulation when Liberty's Joshua Mack fumbled inside the 1 with 41 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Biscardi added a 33-yard field goal on the final play of the half after Barbir kicked a 37-yarder for Liberty.
Central Florida prepares to host bowl games amid pandemic
ORLANDO, Fla. – Within the next two weeks, Central Florida will play host to some big college football bowl games. Steve Hogan is the CEO at Florida Citrus Sports, which is hosting two of the bowl games. He said the bowl games will also mean more exposure for Orlando and Central Florida. “Everybody when they go to these bowl games, they go to have fun,” Brown said. Tailgating will not be allowed at the Cheez It Bowl or the Citrus Bowl.
Orlando to host 3 bowl games this season
ORLANDO, Fla. – The sixth-annual Cure Bowl game will happen in Orlando this December despite the pandemic but with some changes. The bowl game will be played at Camping World Stadium on Dec. 26 at noon. Due to the pandemic, it’s unclear if fans will be able to attend the Cure Bowl. If fans are permitted, organizers will work with ESPN events, Orlando and Camping World to follow all COVID-19 precautions. There are two other bowl games planned in Orlando this season, the Cheez It Bowl on Dec. 29 and the VRBO Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1.
