Orlando-area couple to launch into space on Blue Origin flight
An Orlando-area couple will launch into space on a Blue Origin New Shepard spacecraft. Sharon Hagle and her husband Marc have been in Texas for extensive training ahead of the flight. The New Shepard will lift off from Blue Origin’s Launch Site One on Thursday at 8:20 a.m. Hagle will be joined by her husband and four other crew members: Marty Allen, Jim Kitchen, Gary Lai and Dr. George Nield. The crew will experience the 11-minute trip to space and back, traveling 62 miles above Earth at three times the speed of sound.

Thursday’s flight with a dummy named Mannequin Skywalker lasted 10 minutes and reached 66 miles (106 kilometers) above West Texas. Both the New Shepard rocket and the capsule landed successfully. It was the 14th flight to the fringes of space for a New Shepard rocket.

While no humans were onboard the capsule, the company’s test dummy, Mannequin Skywalker will be in one of the six astronaut seats. Blue Origin is also developing a much larger heavy lift rocket called New Glenn that will launch from Cape Canaveral.
