ORLANDO, Fla. — UCF RESTORES received a $1.4 million First Responder Regional Support Center grant from the Florida Department of Children and Families to provide more funding for first responders, the University of Central Florida said in a release Thursday. This award will help establish the organization as one of six Regional Support Centers in Florida and expand peer support and suicide prevention training. UCF RESTORES was also given an additional $270,000 to work with Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University to build a statewide mental health toolkit. Investigators took a description of the suspect, which matched another man reported to have been taking pictures of women by the restroom in the UCF library earlier in the day. UCF police reviewed surveillance video from all over campus to track the suspect’s movements and identify the vehicle he was driving. Police were able to see Mason on video in the UCF library and made contact with him there. Mason was arrested and charged with one count of video voyeurism. Faculty members who spoke out in the current union bargaining with the university said the sides grow increasingly farther apart. Now they want to know why more than $100 million in leftover pandemic federal relief hasn’t come their way. This is the same raise UCF provided to non-union faculty and staff and also accepted by the other unions that represent UCF employees. For the institutional share of HEERF dollars, UCF has allocated $119.1 million out of $184 million.

Binette responded by saying that UCF issued interim suspensions to Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Phi Alpha, and Omega Psi Phi. An original video of the altercation that took place in the homecoming tailgate before the UCF/Tulane football game at one point had over 4.5 million views on TikTok. ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A Frontier Airlines pilot is accused of installing a hidden spy camera in the bedroom window of an apartment near the University of Central Florida. UCF police said Vernon Crider, 55, cut a hole in the screen of the window and placed a small camera facing the window glass to record a woman’s bedroom. Officers said when they reviewed footage on the camera, they found pictures of a man and the cockpit of an airplane. The airline said that Crider had flown into Orlando on the days the coordinated with when the camera was installed. Investigators said Crider had an expired driver’s license out of Pensacola, Florida, and a valid license in Missouri.

ORLANDO, Fla. — A team of University of Central Florida researchers is helping people who live in downtown Orlando learn more about the air they’re breathing. After waiting out a pandemic delay, the plan is underway to install 100 sensors in neighborhoods across downtown. “Then we’ll be able to see, hopefully, some real differences in attitude, in values, and air quality in the city of Orlando,” said UCF researcher Dr. Thomas Bryer.
