Cocoa man struck, killed on US-1 in Brevard County

Fatal wreck reported near MacArthur Circle

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A 43-year-old Cocoa man was struck and killed Friday morning while standing in a Brevard County roadway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal wreck was reported around 6:05 a.m. on U.S. 1 (Cocoa Boulevard) near MacArthur Circle.

According to the FHP a 59-year-old Cocoa man was driving a 2017 Kia Sorento north on U.S. 1 and struck a pedestrian, whom he said was standing in the road.

Troopers said the driver swerved to avoid the man, but the front right side of the SUV collided with the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an FHP crash report.

The driver was not injured and stayed at the scene.

Northbound lanes were blocked, but the area has been cleared.

An investigation is ongoing.
