Double murder-suicide investigated after hours-long standoff in Marion County
DUNNELLON, Fla. โ A man shot and killed his mother and grandmother before committing suicide during a SWAT standoff in Marion County, sheriffโs officials said. The Marion County Sheriffโs Office said deputies were called Sunday night for a shooting on SW Plantation Street in Dunnellon. AdThe MCSO SWAT team was called and an hours-long standoff ensued, sheriffโs officials said. Officials said efforts were made to resolve the situation, but Michael Chiswick fired shots at a deputy and others. โThis is a difficult situation for everyone involved and our prayers are with the victimsโ family,โ Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods said.
SWAT team arrests armed man who barricaded himself inside Melbourne church
MELBOURNE, Fla. โ A man armed with a gun, who barricaded himself inside a Melbourne Church Sunday, was arrested by SWAT team members after a standoff lasting hours. Soliman is a known individual at the church, officers said. Officers said they were able to distract Soliman long enough so church members could flee the area. According to officers, Soliman barricaded himself just outside the front door of the church and threatened to commit suicide. Around 12 p.m., Soliman was taken into custody by members of the SWAT team.
Swatting calls are becoming more frequent in Volusia County, deputies say
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. โ Deputies in Volusia County said they have received multiple fake โswattingโ calls in the last week. Swatting might be similar to the prank calls you might have made as a child but the difference is this prank call can put peopleโs life at risk, according to authorities. According to the Volusia County Sheriffโs Office, a fake swatting call was made around 10 p.m. Wednesday night. One man was even killed by police in his Kansas home after becoming the victim of a swatting prank in December 2017. Swatting found its way into the public eye after celebrities like Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian fell victim to similar swatting attacks.
Man tells family heโs โlocked and loadedโ before Flagler County standoff, deputies say
FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. โ A man repeatedly threatened and harassed members of his family and told them he was โlocked and loadedโ before a standoff with deputies and a SWAT team, according to the Flagler County Sheriffโs Office. Deputies and SWAT team members, who were already nearby conducting training, responded to the scene on North Ocean Shore Boulevard and began negotiations. Inside the trailer, deputies said they found knives that were stabbed into walls, knives on the floor and in the bathroom, a rifle on the couch, a tactical belt and a shotgun. Gibson is facing charges of domestic violence aggravated assault, aggravated assault, resisting a law enforcement officer without violence and two counts of aggravated stalking. โThis is a situation that could have had a terrible outcome,โ Flagler County Sheriff Staly said in a news release.
Man arrested after SWAT standoff in Palm Bay
PALM BAY, Fla. โ A 27-year-old man was arrested after a SWAT standoff in Palm Bay that began with an argument and gunshots, police said. The Palm Bay Police Department said officers were called Tuesday to the Pinewood Drive Apartments for a report of an argument. According to police, Larry Thompson fired shots at two people, then ran into his apartment. SWAT was called to assist and negotiators talked to Thompson, who eventually came out of the unit, officials said. Thompson was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and booked into the Brevard County Jail.
