Florida man thinks he hears intruder, fatally shoots pregnant wife
STUART, Fla. โ A Florida man mistook a noise outside his bedroom door for an intruder and fatally shot his pregnant wife, sheriffโs officials said. Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said the man frantically called 911, telling dispatchers he accidentally shot his wife. The woman was taken to a hospital where she died, officials said. Snyder told CBS12.com that doctors were able to deliver the victimโs baby, who is in critical condition. A 2-year-old child also in the home was not injured, according to officials.

Second expert to evaluate Florida man accused of eating victimโs face
STUART, Fla. โ A judge in Florida has granted a motion to have another mental health expert evaluate a Florida college student accused of fatally attacking a couple outside their home and chewing off part of the man's face. Harrough was a 19-year-old Florida State University student when the attack happened. Defense expert Dr. Phillip Resnick wrote in 2019 that Harrouff, now 23, believed he was โhalf-man, half-dog" when he attacked the couple. The state's expert, psychologist Gregory Landrum, evaluated Harrouff for five hours in October and concluded he was insane at the time. โSuch an event is highly unusual as people with mental illness are no more likely to commit violent crimes than ordinary members of the public,โ Landrum wrote.
Florida waitresses get $850 Christmas tip at diner
STUART, Fla. โ It was just a regular lunch shift, but two Florida waitresses received the tip of a lifetime from one table: $850. Susan Morrison and Erin Gross were waiting on a Christmas party of 17 people on Wednesday at metro Diner. But when the bill was paid, the party decided to surprise the waitresses and each chipped in $50. The 59-year-old Morrison says sheโs been a waitress for 40 years and has never had this happen. Treasure Coast Newspapers reports the waitresses fought tears as they hugged the woman who planned the lunch event.
Man found passed out behind wheel of stolen truck in Jupiter, police say
JUPITER, Fla. โ A Stuart man was arrested last week after he was found passed out behind the wheel of a stolen pickup truck in Jupiter, police said. Jupiter police said they found Hardister sleeping with his head on the steering wheel of a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck Friday in the parking lot of a Walmart on Indiantown Road. Police said the truck, which had extensive front-end damage, was reported stolen from Port St. Lucie. Hardister said he was "trying to catch a couple of hours of sleep in the parking lot before going to work," but he didn't know that the truck was stolen. When the officer asked Hardister about the damage to the front of the truck, Hardister said he didn't know how it happened, the report said.
