A $50 million class-action lawsuit has been filed against the Volusia County School Board. Online court records show the lawsuit was filed Wednesday with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida.
Volusia County Schools to offer COVID-19 vaccine to employees 65 and older
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. โ Volusia County Public Schools announced the district will offer the COVID-19 vaccine to employees 65 and older. School officials said eligible employees will be contacted through their district email with a designated appointment time and location. More than 965,000 people have received their first COVID-19 vaccine shot in Florida and nearly 21,000 people have received their first shot in Volusia County, according to the Florida Department of Health. The President of Volusia Educators Elizabeth Albert said she is working to ensure all teachers will be next in line to get the vaccine. Volusia teachers union seeks more COVID-19 protection before students return

Volusia School Board to vote on reopen plan next week
The Volusia County School Board held a virtual meeting Wednesday to work on a plan to reopen school campuses with safety precautions amid the coronavirus pandemic. The tentative plan for now is for Volusia students to go back to school on August 24. The updates below are from the school board meeting on Wednesday. The school board plans to vote on the districtโs reopening plan at 4:30 p.m. on July 21. The break is over and the school board is proposing a tentative Aug. 24 start date.
