The cameras will be worn while investigators respond to calls for service, traffic stops, criminal investigations, and initiating contact with citizens, according to city officials. City officials said the devices will provide the police with an additional training tool to promote officer safety and efficiency. This is one more example of how the Winter Park Police Department continues to work harder, smarter, and better to keep our community safe, the city said in a statement.
Winter Park PD responds to ‘lack of police’ concerns amid string of burglaries
WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Winter Park Police Department is taking to social media to address the concerns of residents who believe there is a lack of police presence in the community following a string of recent burglaries. In a Facebook post Tuesday, police said they are currently investigating four residential burglaries on Dale Avenue, Pinetree Road, Mayfield Road and Temple Drive. They also know that seeing an officer’s vehicle in a neighborhood may help to deter criminals and comfort those who live there. “Some of our officers patrolling your neighborhood will be driving unmarked vehicles and you may not be (recognizing) them as police officers,” the post said. The department’s crime mapping system, which provides information about criminal activity in specific sections of the city, can be accessed at WPPD.org.
88-year-old missing after wandering away from shopping center

According to officials, Cyril Mott, 88, was dropped off at Winter Park Village outdoor shopping center and wandered off. Mott is described as a white male, 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 7 inches tall. Winter Park police investigating shooting into home over the weekend
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Winter Park Police Department said it is investigating a shooting into a home early Saturday morning. Winter Park police said that no one was harmed in the shooting that took place just after 2 a.m. Someone who lives in the area said that he was inside his home with his wife and two young children. Several neighbors who have lived on the Winter Park street for about a decade say nothing like this has ever happened. Winter Park police said that the investigation is open and ongoing.
