‘It’s really too hot’: Ocoee High students say classrooms went without AC for days
OCOEE, Fla. — Students at Ocoee High School claim several of their classrooms have not had working air conditioning for days. The school district said as of Thursday the issue had been fixed, but not before hundreds of comments flooded social media complaining about the lack of AC. Ocoee, West Orange high school football game canceled due to COVID-19 impacts
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County Public Schools said the football game between Ocoee and West Orange high schools on Friday has been canceled.
The district said the cancellation is due to a lack of practice time for Ocoee High School football players that resulted from COVID-19 cases and ordered quarantines last week.

Orange County schools holding vaccination events for district employees this weekend
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County Public Schools is partnering with the state to offer district employees COVID-19 vaccines Saturday and Sunday. Dozens of school district employees waited in line to get their shots outside of Ocoee High School Saturday morning. National guardsmen were also seen stationed at Colonial High School. The school district is hosting the walk-up vaccination sites at Colonial High School, East River High School, Freedom High School, Oak Ridge High School, and Ocoee High School. All OCPS employees, regardless of age or job title, are eligible to receive the vaccine at all Florida distribution sites.
More Orange County high school football games canceled due to COVID-19 cases
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Two local high school football games that were supposed to happen Friday night have been canceled due to positive COVID-19 cases, according to Orange County Public Schools. The affected games are: Freedom High School vs. East River High School and Ocoee High School vs. Celebration High School. The Ocoee game has been canceled due to contact tracing at Celebration, which played against Freedom last week. Games involving Evans High School vs. West Orange High School and Edgewater High vs. Wekiva High have also been canceled earlier this season. Orange County football players are required to get rapid coronavirus testing before games.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando Police on Thursday released a photo of a vehicle that was used during a shooting that killed a star Ocoee High School football player and left three others injured Saturday night. Dexter Rentz Jr., 18, was found in the other vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound, records show. Authorities said they don’t believe the crime was random but haven’t provided details on what led up to the gunfire. Rentz was a standout senior on Ocoee High School’s football team who had received a full scholarship to play for the University of Louisville. An 18-year-old Ocoee High School senior was killed in a shooting that left three others injured, according to the Orlando Police Department. Authorities said Dexter Rentz Jr. died in the shooting, which was reported late Saturday near Elese Street and Deerock Drive in Orlando. According to Orlando police, several 911 calls reported gunfire and officers in the area also heard gunshots. The names and ages of the other shooting victims have not been released because an investigation is ongoing, police said. Rentz had signed a football scholarship in December with the University of Louisville.
Ocoee High graduate works to inspire youth through mentorship
OCOEE, Fla. – Jonathan Dorely, 25, is on a mission, working to keep at-risk youth on track. Dorely is a 2013 graduate of Ocoee High School. His designer company is called Lordey Apparel. Jonathan Dorely works to help inspire at-risk youth (WKMG-TV)“When I was in high school, I didn’t have this available to me, to make my own suit,” Dorely said. Dorely is originally from New Jersey, but graduated from Ocoee High School in Orlando.
