Florida to use $5 million federal grant to fund career program for recovering addicts
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. โ Florida will use a $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to fund a pilot program designed to help people recovering from opioid addiction re-enter the workforce through training as well as continue to receive recovery and support services. The DeSantis' said the program is designed to partner with communities including local colleges, CareerSource in Central Florida and law enforcement. โThis new pilot program is focused on connecting individuals who have been impacted by opioid abuse addiction and other substance use disorders, with the resources they need to recover and find meaningful employment in their communities,โ Gov.
Seminole State College free Rapid Skills program helps those found jobless during pandemic upgrade skills
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. โ Those who have been furloughed or have lost their jobs due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic now have a new and free way to boost their career skills. Seminole State College is utilizing CARES Act funding for its Rapid Skills program. The program pays for tuition, fees and books for students and offers certifications in project management, public safety, graphic design, information technology and business. Cicotti says about 160 students are enrolled for the fall semester and the program can accommodate about 150 spots for the spring. To apply, visit Seminole State College online here.
Seminole State College announces reopening plans for fall semester
SANFORD, Fla. โ Seminole State College announced its plans to begin its phased reopening plan for fall 2020 Monday. The decision was made under guidance from its Safe Campus Reopening Task Force, a group of employees, members of the student body and campus leaders. The college was approved to begin its reopening plan July 6, with its fall term set to begin Aug. 24 as scheduled. The college has developed a reopening report, Raiders Return, which outlines the plan phases and precautions to be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
