Latino voters who have been hard hit by the pandemic could be a key group of voters in Newsom's potential recall election. โIf they're successful in doing that then certainly the Latino vote could be persuaded to vote for the recall," Alvarado said. โLatino voters are incredibly important to our campaign, to Kevin personally, and to our pathway to victory,โ he said. He said the campaign is partnering with community-based organizations that understand the diversity within Californiaโs Latino communities and deploying surrogates to speak around the state. The son of a sugarcane worker, Clemente began his professional baseball career just after finishing high school.
Mobile COVID-19 test site to target Orlandoโs Latino communities
ORLANDO, Fla. โ Two organizations are teaming up to bring a mobile coronavirus testing site to Orlandoโs Latino community. Curative, a community-driven health care company, has partnered with Latino Leadership to provide free testing. The mobile site can offer 300 to 500 tests per day, according to a news release. โDuring the course of the pandemic, we have seen firsthand how the Latino community has been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. She said every election year is a sad reminder of the sacrifices made by her great uncle, Julius July Perry. โHe did everything right to educate people to get out and vote,โ said Mcwhite. Preparations underway for Vice President Mike Penceโs visit to Central Florida

JPMorgan puts $30B toward fixing banking's 'systemic racism'
CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ JPMorgan Chase said Thursday it will extend billions in loans to Black and Latino homebuyers and small business owners in an expanded effort toward fixing what the bank calls โsystemic racismโ in the countryโs economic system. โSystemic racism is a tragic part of Americaโs history,โ said JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon in a statement. Citigroup announced last month it is committing $1 billion toward closing โthe racial wealth gapโ in the United States, including $550 million toward homeownership programs for racial minorities. He noted that thereโs a 30% gap between Black and white homeownership, amounting to about 4.5 million households. JPMorgan was one of 27 major New York-based companies that joined a program to recruit 100,000 workers from the city's low-income, predominately Black, Latino and Asian communities over the next 10 years.

New California reopening rules require 'equity' measure

California's plan to safely reopen its economy will begin to require counties to bring down coronavirus infection rates in disadvantaged communities that have been harder hit by the pandemic. It allows counties to incrementally reopen businesses as they meet more rigid state standards for both numbers for two consecutive weeks. The equity measure will require that positive test rates in its most disadvantaged neighborhoods, where rates are often much higher, do not significantly lag behind the county overall. โWe think it needs to go beyond that because if you donโt have savings, you cannot stay home and not work.
Commissioners urge Hispanic, Latino communities to fill out census ahead of deadline
Two Orange County commissioners made a call to action to the Hispanic and Latino communities in an effort to change the statists when it comes to the 2020 U.S. Census. โJust 1970 is when the census actually started counting Hispanics but what we noticed over the years is traditionally African Americans and Hispanic communities are undercounted,โ Mayra Uribe, Orange County Commissioner for District 3 said. Orange County government said while people are focused on their jobs, health, and families, they need to be reminded of the importance of responding to the 2020 U.S. census. Orange County government set up seven computer kiosks inside seven different community centers in the county. The centers will be open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.Those needing to visit a census location can visit one of the following sites:
New PBS film probes construction boom on Latino workers

The film dives into the lives of one Mexican immigrant family in Texas after their construction worker son dies while on the job. The film, though a partnership with Latino Public Broadcasting, is scheduled to begin airing on most PBS stations on Tuesday to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States.
Latino organizations ask Orange County school board to minimize language barriers
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. โ A number of Latino organizations held a press conference outside of the Orange County Public Schools School Board building on Tuesday. The organizations included Organize Florida, Voices Unidas para la Educaciรณn, and Pa'lante por mas. Organizers ended the news conference by heading inside the building and delivering a letter to the OCPS school board. In that letter, they request that live closed captioning be provided during every meeting in the top five non-English languages in Orange County schools, which they list as Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Arabic, and Vietnamese. Orange County Public Schools tells News 6, translations are provided for those who attend the meetings in person.
In pursuit of Florida Latinos, Democrats fight socialist tag
Gillum blamed Republicans for preying on โsensitivitiesโ of Latinos in Florida, as Camacho translated his complaint into Spanish for listeners. Camachoโs weekly show is funded by the Florida Democratic Party โ part of a statewide effort to bolster its standing with Floridaโs Latinos ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Biden campaign spokeswoman Isabel Aldunate said Republicans were seeking to โcapitalize on the traumatizing past that many South Florida Latinos experienced." According to AP VoteCast, a nationwide survey of the U.S. electorate, 44% of Florida Latinos voting in the 2018 midterms voted for Republican Gov. Florida Democrats have trained 150 Spanish-speaking surrogates influential in Hispanic media and created a legislative affairs group of Puerto Ricans focusing on rebuilding the island after Hurricane Maria.
