Mooove over: Cows stop traffic on Florida Turnpike after hauler catches fire
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A vehicle fire resulted in dozens of cows clogging a part of the Florida Turnpike Monday morning, according to highway officials. Troopers around 11:40 a.m. responded to mile marker 226 on the turnpike in Osceola County. The semi-cab of a cattle hauler carrying around 70 cows caught fire, highway officials said. Fire crews arrived on scene and extinguished the fire, and the hauler was towed from the scene. Infant in critical condition after rear-end crash on Florida’s Turnpike
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An infant was critically injured Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Florida’s Turnpike, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the crash happened around 9:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 261. The man’s grandson, a 4-month-old, was in a car seat in the back of the car and suffered critical injuries, the FHP said. Alcohol did not play a role in the crash, the FHP said. Three of the four southbound lanes of the Turnpike were closed after the crash.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man who was on the run for hours after fatally stabbing his employer at a construction site on Florida’s Turnpike Monday morning has been taken into custody, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The victim, identified Monday afternoon as 28-year-old William Steven Knight, was pronounced dead at the scene, Orange County sheriff’s spokesman Christian Marrero said. First phase of Citrus Grove Road expansion to debut
Lake County commissioners and other area dignitaries will formally open Citrus Grove Road Phase I to the public during a ribbon cutting at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Citrus Grove and Hancock roads. It involves widening the road from two lanes to four lanes and extending it from Grassy Lake Road to Hancock Road, which has access to the Turnpike. Parks' district is south Lake County and includes the Citrus Grove Road project. This new highway will have a tremendous impact on our local road network.The next phase of the project will begin later this year, when crews will begin widening the portion of Citrus Grove Road from Grassy Lake Road west to U.S. 27. Immediately following the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Citrus Grove Road Phase I will open to traffic.

41-year-old Orlando woman dies in Turnpike crash with semi
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. - A 41-year-old woman died in a crash Friday morning on Florida's Turnpike in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said Gerson de Silva Giotto, 45, was driving an SUV southbound near mile marker 191 at about 5:40 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, he failed to slow down as he approached a semi truck driving in front of him. The front right side of the SUV hit the rear of the semi, killing front seat passenger 41-year-old Leah Giotto, of Orlando, according to the report. Gerson de Silva Giotto suffered serious injuries and passenger Liode de Silva Giotto, 71, suffered critical injuries, troopers said. The semi truck driver was not injured.
Man, teenage girl shot in turnpike road rage incident, FHP says
CLERMONT, Fla. – Two people, including a teenage girl, were injured in a shooting Saturday morning that shut down a portion of Florida's Turnpike in Lake County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. All southbound lanes of the turnpike were shut down before State Road 50 around 10:15 a.m., after a 37-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, both from Miami, were shot by someone in a gray Toyota Camry, troopers said. [READ: Orlando ranks among top U.S. cities for road rage]Both victims were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds, officials said. Troopers said the shooting was believed to have been a case of road rage and are reviewing surveillance video at tollbooths to identify the driver of the gray Camry. Troopers are advising all drivers to not engage in a road rage incident, because you don't know what the other driver has as far as weapons.
