Shark attacks surfer off Melbourne Beach
MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. โ A man was attacked by a โtoothy sea creatureโ while surfing Tuesday morning off Melbourne Beach, according to officials. The attack happened around 8:15 a.m. near the 7400 block of State Road A1A in the Sunnyland Beach community. The 25-year-old victim was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center with an arm injury, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue. Officials said the man suffered โsignificant bleeding.โโIt was severe enough that they thought he needed specialized attention at a trauma center,โ Fire Chief Mark Schollmeyer said. Firefighters said the surfer was fortunate to be right across the street from the last fire station in the county before Sebastian Inlet.
Woman bitten by shark twice while boogie boarding at New Smyrna Beach
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. โ A woman at New Smyrna Beach was bitten by a shark Thursday. According to officials, a 50-year-old woman from Miami was boogie boarding when a shark bit her left leg. โShe kicked at the shark and received a second bite on her ankle,โ Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue said. Officials were unable to find the shark after the encounter. โBoth bites were non-life threatening and she was not transported to the hospital,โ VCBSOR added.
