That is the case especially for the toymaker's iconic Barbie and Hot Wheels lines. New additions to the Barbie brand, which launched with the Barbie Dream House in 1962, include the Barbie Dream Plane and Judge Barbie, which Kreiz said is made to empower girls. After selling 500 million Hot Wheels items in 2018, a record, Mattel expects to exceed that number in 2019, he added.
