Florida authorities found a newborn girl wrapped in a blanket and still attached to a placenta on a hill outside a trailer park early Saturday morning. Polk County deputies responding to a call about a baby crying outside near Mulberry, east of Tampa, found the girl about an hour after she was born, the sheriff's office said in a news release. Polk County medical workers took the baby to a hospital, where she was healthy and stable, according to the sheriff's office.

Around 10:50 p.m., deputies found the Bartow man sitting in his car under a bridge on Nichols Road in Mulberry. According to the sheriff’s office, four deputies approached the vehicle and asked him to show his hands. Deputies immediately rendered aid until Polk County Fire Rescue could arrive. According to the sheriff’s office, Chaves was hired as a detention deputy in 2014, and became a patrol deputy in 2015.
Elderly couple dies in Polk County house fire
POLK COUNTY, Fla. – An elderly couple died after their home caught on fire Tuesday night, according to Polk County authorities. Fire Rescue officials said the fire started at 11:59 p.m. outside the home on Willis Road in Mulberry and then spread to the brick residence. Fire fighters were unable to enter through the front door so they got inside through the windows. Once inside, first responders were met with extreme heat and zero visibility but were still able to extricate the man and woman who were inside. The couple, identified by deputies as 86-year-old Carl Caldwell and 80-year-old Denise Caldwell, were taken to Bartow Regional Medical Center, where they died.
