Retired MLB player Johnny Damon, wife accused of fighting with cop during DUI traffic stop in Central Florida
WINDERMERE, Fla. โ Johnny Damon, a retired Major League Baseball player and Orlando native, bonded out of jail Friday afternoon after he and his wife were accused of struggling with an officer during a DUI traffic stop in Windermere. As the former pro-athlete was released, an unidentified man encouraged Damon to not talk with the media; however, he did speak briefly. So, I apologize and hopefully, I can answer more questions later on.โWhen asked about his wifeโs arrest, Damon was more evasive. His wife, 45-year-old Michelle Mangan-Damon, is facing charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence. Damon and Mangan-Damon both got out of the SUV as the officer approached, despite his commands to stay in the vehicle, according to the affidavit.
State attorney changes incarceration policy due to Orange County jailโs COVID-19 outbreak
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. โ Orange Osceola State Attorney Monique Worrell is changing her officeโs policy on seeking incarceration for defendants in response to the COVID-19 outbreak at the Orange County jail. The policy comes after an outbreak of virus cases at the Orange County Jail where 83 inmates contracted the virus, according to Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings. The statement echos Dr. Raul Pino from the Florida Department of Health in Orange County, who referred to jails as a โpetri dishโ during a news conference last week. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said the jail has about 2,600 inmates housed there. AdโWhat we donโt want is people sitting in custody pre trial, because they cant afford to get out of jail,โ Worrell said.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. โ Almost a year after arrestee Eric Stanley sneaked a gun into the Orange County Jail, according to investigators, Jail Chief Luis Quinones has made changes to ensure it never happens again. Investigators said Stanley, brought to the jail by Orange County Sheriffโs Office deputies on March 21, 2020, hid the loaded handgun in his waistband. Quinones has since banned plastic handcuffs inside the jail and mandated that jail officers replace any flex-cuffs with metal handcuffs. Quinones said all supervisors have undergone racial equity training and the rest of the jail staff will get the same training. The Orange County Sheriffโs Office said after the hostage standoff last year, it did a thorough investigation and suspended the three deputies involved in arresting Stanley.
Gun, ammo found in passengerโs bag at Orlando International Airport

Investigators say German Espinosa, 29, was carrying a backpack with a 9mm firearm and several bullets inside it. Deputies say a airport security screener made the discovery after putting Epinosaโs bag through an X-ray machine. Investigators say Espinosa did not have a permit to carry a concealed firearm. Espinosa was booked into the Orange County Jail and has since been released.
Inmate brought gun into Orange County Jail intake area before holding 3 hostage, report shows
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. โ The man who held an Orange County corrections officer, deputy and nurse at gunpoint Saturday was able to bring the weapon into the jail intake area, the Sheriffโs Office arrest report shows. According to the arrest report, Stanley pulled his hand out of his flex cuffs and pointed a gun at the corrections officer telling him to get on the ground. The report does not state how Stanley was able to get the gun into the facility. Law enforcement officers outside the area fired shots through the glass door hitting Stanley in the shoulder, according to the report. The deputy was able to convince Stanley to unload the gun and put the weapon on the ground, according to the report.
Teen transferred to Orange County Jail, charged with attempted murder
A teen charged with attempted murder of another teen was transferred from a juvenile detention center to Orange County Jail on Friday. Daryl Quentin Schofield was charged with multiple offenses, including attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, following the January shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Oakland, according to authorities.
