The SPC has highlighted the entire area under a 'Slight Risk' (2/5) meaning thunderstorms could get strong or severe through the day. Stay weather aware. Threats include heavy rain at times, damaging wind gusts, small hail, frequent lightning and a few tornadoes.
Heating up with thunderstorms developing this afternoon
Quiet and mild to begin our Sunday morning. Later this afternoon, seabreezes are expected to collide and along that collision, thunderstorms are expected to fire up. A thunderstorms could get strong producing heavy rain, strong gusty winds, frequent lightning and small hail. It'll get hot and humid this afternoon with daytime highs slightly exceeding normal values.
Scattered rain likely today then building heat later this week
Typical summer-like pattern as we go through the weekend. Scattered rain with locally heavy downpours are expected. Things shift as we go through the upcoming work week. A ridge of high pressure begins to build and expand over the area suppressing rain chances but increasing the temperatures. Daytime highs are expected to soar into the upper 90s by midweek and heat index values in the triple digits as we wrap up the week.
