Hamilton holds off Verstappen to win tense F1 season-opener
The race was effectively decided when Verstappen overtook Hamilton on Lap 53 of 56 but went too wide on a turn and off track limits. Verstappen still had a few laps to catch Hamilton and he almost did, finishing .74 seconds behind the Mercedes driver. Verstappen took a superb pole position on Saturday, the fourth of his career, and started immediately ahead of Hamilton under floodlights at the desert track. Hamilton was 1.5 seconds behind Verstappen when Mercedes took the bold strategy to switch him to hard tires on Lap 14. Bottas came in for the same tire change three laps after Hamilton, and Verstappen came in on Lap 18 but again for medium tires.
Mercedes recalls vehicles for emergency-call location error

The recall comes after Mercedes-Benz learned of a crash in Europe where the automatic emergency-call system sent the wrong position of the vehicle. The recall covers many vehicles from the 2016 through 2021 model years, including those classed CLA, GLA, GLE, GLS, SLC, A, GT, C, E, S, CLS, SL, B, GLB, GLC, and G. The company's Daimler Vans also announced recalls of 2016-2020 Metris vehicles and 2019-2020 Sprinter vehicles. Mercedes-Benz said that it will notify affected owners and update the software systems at no charge, according to filings with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Man shot at exโs boyfriend at least 94 times, Orlando police say
ORLANDO, Fla. โ A man fired a gun at least 94 time while targeting his ex-girlfriendโs current boyfriend during a drive-by shooting Saturday night, according to the Orlando Police Department. Records show the shooting happened at about 11:30 p.m. in the area of South Kirkland Boulevard and Ivey Lane. The woman claimed Howard was jealous of his exโs relationship, even though she and Howard are broken up and Howard is married. Howard, his ex, and her current boyfriend were all on the phone yelling at each other before the shooting and Howard made a threat toward the other man, records show. That womanโs boyfriend said he saw a man who had his face covered hanging out of the sunroof of a black Mercedes while firing a gun, records show.
F1 season to start in Bahrain after Australian GP postponed

The Australian race in Melbourne, initially set to open the season on March 21, has been rescheduled to Nov. 21 with F1 organizers citing โthe ongoing situation regarding COVID-19โ. The Chinese Grand Prix has also been postponed but no new date has been set for the race. The season will start with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 28 at Sakhir, less than four months after the same venue held two races as part of the 2020 season.
Hamilton clinches record 7th F1 title with win at Turkish GP
Hamilton now stands alongside F1 great Michael Schumacher on seven titles, having replaced the German driver at Mercedes in 2013. Vettel and Hamilton pitted for new tires on Lap 9, followed by Stroll, Perez and Verstappen three laps later. At the restart Hamilton tried to overtake Vettel but locked his tires, while Albon passed Hamilton and Vettel to move into fourth spot. Halfway through the race, Stroll and Perez were ahead of Hamilton but losing ground. Stroll came in for new tires on Lap 37 and Hamilton used DRS to get past Perez one lap later and take the lead.

Troopers seek driver who hit bicyclists in The Villages
SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. โ Troopers say theyโre looking for a driver who hit two bicyclists in The Villages, got out to see what she had done and then drove off without helping them. Bottas wins in Russia as Hamilton misses F1 win record
Hamilton's Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas cruised to the win Sunday after Hamilton, who was leading, was penalized 10 seconds for practicing his starts in the wrong place before the race. Hamilton came into the race looking to match Michael Schumacherโs record of 91 wins in Formula One but had to settle for third behind Bottas and Max Verstappen.
