Florida attraction to get glass-bottom boat for wheelchairs
In 2015, Paula Russo, a volunteer for the Florida State Parks Foundation, set up a table for a public event at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park near Gainesville. โShe said something to the effect that โthis is all very nice, but I took the kids over to Silver Springs to go out on a glass-bottom boat and I couldnโt get on the boat. Karen Chadwick cites being there as a toddler for why she is an eco-tourism guide and environmental activist fighting for Silver Springs. The design honors the traditional look of Silver River glass-bottom boats, said Leif Detlefsen, the firmโs chief naval architect. WHAT CAPTAINS THINKSilver Springs boat captains are enthused, if uncertain about a high-tech, unproven boat.

Appeals court upholds murder conviction
An appellate court has upheld the second-degree murder conviction of a Silver Springs man. A three-judge panel from the 5th District Court of Appeal found fault with two rulings the judge made during Charles Willoughbys trial last year. The court said that evidence was inadmissible hearsay, despite the states efforts to characterize it as an allowable exception to the rule barring hearsay. Still, the appellate panel said the "overwhelming evidence" against Willoughby rendered the mistake harmless. "Based on the record," the court said, "there is no evidence to suggest that the jury was misled by the issuance of the instruction."

ocala.comMark Emery says Silver River film is 'out of my heart'
Emery discussed making the film around the main spring area, where the Silver Springs attraction was established and the famous glass-bottom boats are docked. Emery showed segments from the film with stunning wildlife close-ups and narration from four longtime glass-bottom boat captains. Silver Springs, owned by several corporations over the years, was converted to Silver Springs State Park in 2013, and the park now includes the Silver River Museum and former Silver River State Park. Emery said the Silver River environment provides an atmosphere where filmmakers don't have to deal with salt water in their equipment and the light conditions in the water are very positive. He soon worked at Silver Springs as a glass-bottom boat captain and wrestled alligators and milked rattlesnakes as a worker at reptile expert Ross Allen's institute at Silver Springs.
