Restaurants are beginning the new year with a recurring problem: labor shortages. Chipotle said Thursday it’s looking to hire 15,000 people in North America to ensure its stores are staffed up ahead of its busy spring season. U.S. restaurants have added jobs for 24 consecutive months since the height of the pandemic, according to the National Restaurant Association. But restaurant employment is still 3.6% lower than before the pandemic, or the equivalent of 450,000 jobs. But attracting workers __ especially young people __ is still hard.

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. — An East Tennessee woman is accused of intoxication after she allegedly hung toilet paper all over a bathroom at a Taco Bell restaurant, authorities said. According to Sweetwater police Officer Jalen Smith, Coker had refused to leave the Taco Bell when employees told her the fast-food restaurant was closing, The Advocate & Democrat of Madisonville reported. When Smith arrived at the restaurant, he said Coker came out of the bathroom, and he could tell that toilet paper “had been hung everywhere,” according to the newspaper. When Smith questioned Coker and asked if she had been using drugs, she said she had not but had sometimes used methamphetamine, The Advocate & Democrat reported. The officer said Coker appeared to be dangerous to herself and others and arrested her.

An Ashtabula customer furious at Taco Bell took his anger out on the Subway across the street and opened fire on the restaurant. “He was mad over some chicken chalupas at the Taco Bell,” Cunningham told the television station. “He pulls out a gun, fires a shot in the air and leaves,” Stell told the Star-Beacon. “They were like, ‘He was threatening to shoot us up and stuff.’”An investigation is ongoing, Stell told the Star-Beacon.

Taco Bell offering free taco for World Series stolen base

Taco Bell is eliminating some of your favorite menu items

Taco Bell is saying adios to some menu items. The fast-food chain is eliminating Mexican pizza, pico de gallo and shredded chicken on Nov. 5. The restaurant says the move will make room for new innovations, like a tropical iced drink and a chicken chipotle melt. Last month, in an effort to be more efficient during the pandemic, Taco Bell got rid of several items, including the seven-layer burrito, nachos supreme and the beefy Fritos burrito. This time around, the restaurant says it is getting rid of the Mexican pizza to make good on its eco-friendly commitment.

Police: Man cooks food, takes nap during Taco Bell break-in

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – Gwinnett County police need help identifying a man accused of breaking into a fast-food restaurant, preparing food, then taking a nap on Christmas morning. According to a report from Fox5 Atlanta, it happened around 12:15 a.m. on December 25 at the Taco Bell located in the 4800 block of Sugarloaf Parkway in unincorporated Lawrenceville. Investigators said a black male climbed through the drive-thru window and was seen on surveillance video using fryers to make himself a meal. In the video, the suspect ate the food before taking a nap on the floor of the restaurant. According to police, the man stole a laptop and tablet before leaving.
