A video of two men dragging a shark across the New Smyrna Beach shore and stabbing it in the head surfaced Saturday, leaving many social media users stunned and questioning the legality of the practice.

Shark bites 9-year-old boy on shoulder as he body surfed in Miami Beach
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. โ A 9-year-old Minnesota boy was bitten by a shark as he body surfed in Miami Beach over the weekend, his parents said. Kristine Weiskopf told WPLG she and her son, Jay, were in the water for only a few minutes when the shark bit the boy. When she pulled him up, she said she saw a chunk of skin missing from his shoulder. A Miami Beach Fire Rescue crew took the child to the hospital where surgeons closed the wound, his mother said. That heโs gonna be OK,โ the childโs father, Ren Weiskopf told the TV station.
Giant great white shark bites Tampa Bay boat in gulf waters
TAMPA, Fla. โ A Florida fishing captain with a boat named โOffshore Therapyโ saw something less than therapeutic on her recent fishing trip: a great white shark. Erika Almond and several friends were fishing in approximately 200 feet of water about 65 miles south-southwest of Tampa Bay when an extremely large great white shark approached the boat and tried to bite it, according to Fox 13. We had a 14-16 foot Great White shark circle our boat, bite the motors and the boat, and roll on its back for about two to three hours! According to Almond, the shark did this for about two or three hours as it circled her boat, even rolling onto its back. In one of the photos, one of Almondโs friends is seen reaching out to touch the shark.
Beachcomber finds 6-foot-long shark washed up on Melbourne Beach
It was not the sort of thing the onetime surfer expected to see on her daily morning walk along Melbourne Beach. There, not far from the shoreline, Betty Gardner Gonzalez spotted the dead shark in the sand just before sunrise Monday, News 6 partner Florida Today reported. โI walk every morning on the beach and just came across it. The shark, possibly a sand tiger shark or one of the ragged-tooth variety, was about 6 feet long. Gonzalez had planned to contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission about the discovery.

What you might not expect to find though is a 10-foot long hammerhead shark circling an unsuspecting swimmer. A drone video taken by Jason McIntosh on Nov. 15 in Miami Beach, Florida shows just that. The terrifying video captured the giant creature circling in shallow water just below a man that is clueless about whatโs happening below him. McIntosh who said he had no way to warn the swimmer told Jam Press, โIโve seen hammerheads out there in the shoreline before.
Teen surfer bit by shark in Ormond Beach
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. โ A 17-year-old was bit by a shark Saturday in Ormond Beach while surfing in the ocean, according to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue officials. The teen was bit on his right leg while retrieving his surfboard in waist deep water at the Neptune Approach off Ocean Shore Boulevard, Capt. Tamra Malphurs, with Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue, said. The 17-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Shark attacks surfer off Melbourne Beach
MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. โ A man was attacked by a โtoothy sea creatureโ while surfing Tuesday morning off Melbourne Beach, according to officials. The attack happened around 8:15 a.m. near the 7400 block of State Road A1A in the Sunnyland Beach community. The 25-year-old victim was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center with an arm injury, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue. Officials said the man suffered โsignificant bleeding.โโIt was severe enough that they thought he needed specialized attention at a trauma center,โ Fire Chief Mark Schollmeyer said. Firefighters said the surfer was fortunate to be right across the street from the last fire station in the county before Sebastian Inlet.
Shark bites fish from surfers hand at Canaveral National Seashore
A shark bit a surfers hand as the man was releasing a fish he caught Tuesday at Canaveral National Seashore, according to Volusia County Beach Safety. The victim was a 54-year-old man from Winter Springs. The 4- to 5-foot shark swam away after it bit the mans hand and the fish he was holding. He was treated on scene by Beach Safety personnel then drove himself to a hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown.
SEA LIFE Orlando aquarium sinks its teeth into shark week
ORLANDO, Fla โ Sea Life Orlando Aquarium is celebrating all things sharks this week as most of the country is glued to their TV screens watching Discoveryโs Shark Week. Leaders said over 100 of the 500 shark species in the worldโs oceans are threatened which brings the importance of shark conservation and care even more to the forefront. Sea Life plans to do a number of interactions on its Facebook page throughout the week.
