CLERMONT, Fla. – A motorcyclist was killed Monday during a crash with an SUV, according to the Clermont Police Department. As of 6:30 p.m., Disston Avenue is closed between East Desoto Street and East Osceola Street as authorities conduct a traffic homicide investigation. CLERMONT, Fla. – The city of Clermont in Lake County rolled out body cameras for its officers this week, outfitting 55 officers and sergeants with the new equipment. The Clermont Police Department previously looked into purchasing body cameras several years ago but at the time the storage fees were too expensive, however, the technology has advanced making the purchase possible. “The body cameras prove their worth in protecting the police department and community,” Purvis said in a news release. If an officer falls and needs backup, the camera automatically starts recording, alerts nearby officers and sends a call for help with the officer’s GPS location. CLERMONT, Fla. Two men wanted on attempted murder charges in connection with a shooting were arrested Monday during a traffic stop, according to the Clermont Police Department. Records show the intended target and others at the scene identified David Chandler William Simpson, 24, and Marcus Brown, 22, as the suspects. Police said they attempted to arrest the men at their last known addresses but were unsuccessful. On Monday, officers spotted Simpson and Brown driving in the area of Old Highway 50 in Minneola and conducted a traffic stop, according to a news release. Police said they were arrested on charges of attempted homicide in the first degree, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and conspiracy.

A resident of the home was sitting on his couch at the time of the incident, according to the report. Police said the bullet went through the front window. Investigators said they found a copper bullet on the living room floor next to the front door. Authorities said due to the thin material the bullet passed through and suddenly stopping, officers believe the bullet was fired from a far distance.
