The U.S. governmentโs auto safety agency plans to require that all new passenger cars and light trucks include potentially life-saving automatic emergency braking and meet stricter safety standards within three years.

Honda of America sales chief Dave Gardner told reporters one of the electric SUVs will be from the Honda brand, while the other will be an Acura. As part of Honda's efforts to meet stricter emissions standards, it will reduce emissions from its internal combustion vehicles, Gardner said. Already the company has a hybrid called the Insight, as well as hybrid versions of its Accord midsize car, CR-V small SUV.

The victim told police she didnโt believe the driver and asked her to wait and not move. This happened January 31st on West Int'l Speedway Blvd./US 92 near Daytona International Speedway. The software recall includes 737,000 Accords from 2018 to 2020 and Insights from 2019 and 2020. Two drive shaft recalls cover 430,000 Honda Civic Hybrids from 2012, the 2007 through 2014 Honda Fit, the 2013 through 2015 Acura ILX and the 2013 through 2015 Honda Accord. Dealers will inspect the left and right drive shafts and replace them if needed.
Video: Florida driver crashes into cop car during DUI traffic stop, police say
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. โ A driver was so drunk that he backed into a patrol car during a DUI traffic stop and then denied ever doing it, according to the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety. Records show an officer spotted a green Honda going 54 mph in a 35 mph zone and pulled the driver over around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday. The driver of the Honda, 33-year-old Siang Thang, seemed โin a dazeโ and wasnโt initially responsive when the officer ordered him out of the vehicle, according to the affidavit. Records show Thang admitted to speeding but denied crashing into the patrol vehicle and seemed surprised when he saw the vehicleโs damage. A field sobriety test was conducted, which he failed, although he was able to recite the alphabet, the affidavit said.
Florida establishes incentive program for recalled airbags for certain Honda and Acura cars
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody wants to make sure Honda and Acura drivers are not traveling with dangerous airbags. Moody said a multimillion-dollar resolution with Honda resulted in added safeguards put in place by Honda will prevent airbag safety risks in the future. Around 52,000 people in Florida will be able to participate in the incentive program, according to Moody. The attorney general said Honda and Acura owners of the Alpha Population vehicles are at an increased risk of catastrophic failure should the defective airbag not deploy. Anyone who wants to see if their vehicle is part of the program can call 1(888)-234-2138 or go to safercar.gov.
Deputy uninjured after crash on Michigan Street in Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. โ An Orange County deputy involved in a crash Thursday afternoon was not injured and the driver of the other vehicle involved was found at fault, according to Orlando police. The crash between an Orange County Sheriffโs Office patrol car and a red Honda happened at 3:23 p.m. near Michigan Street and Sunrise Court, Orlando police said. The deputy was uninjured and the driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries, authorities said. Traffic was diverted through a private parking lot temporarily until the crash scene was cleared. Authorities did not say what caused the crash.
Honda, General Motors sign deal to work on vehicles together
DETROIT General Motors and Honda say they have signed a deal to explore sharing vehicle underpinnings and propulsion systems in North America. The companies say planning discussions on jointly-designed vehicles will start immediately and include vehicles powered by both electricity and internal combustion engines. Honda and GM say in a statement Thursday that they'll also cooperate on purchasing, research and connected services. In April the companies announced they would jointly develop two electric vehicles for Honda based on GM's global electric vehicle platform. The alliance would be governed by a joint committee of senior executives from both companies, the statement said.
Mrquez back on bike 4 days after surgery on broken arm
JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA Marc Mrquez returned to the track just four days after undergoing surgery on a broken arm and finished Saturdays practice session for the Andalucia Grand Prix with the 20th best time. The six-time defending MotoGP champion says he will decide later whether to take part in the race itself on Sunday. Team Honda said Thursday that Mrquez passed a physical and was declared fit to race despite undergoing surgery to fix a broken right humerus on Tuesday. The Spaniard crashed near the end of last Sundays Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez de la Frontera, which marked MotoGPs first race since the coronavirus pandemic struck. Tests showed there was no nerve damage caused by the fracture, allowing Mrquez to participate this weekend at the same Circuito de Jerez-ngel Nieto circuit.
Kissimmee man dies after crashing into utility pole, troopers say
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. A Kissimmee man is dead after an early morning single-vehicle crash in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers responded to Old Lake Wilson Road, near Sand Hill Road, around 2 a.m. Monday morning where they found a two-door Honda had crashed into a wooden utility pole. Investigators said the 32-year-old driver lost control of the car, veered off the roadway and struck the pole. The driver died at the scene. Troopers said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
