Women killed while crossing road in Osceola County, troopers say
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol said a 42-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a sedan in Osceola County. The FHP said the crash happened Saturday night around 11:15 p.m. near Pleasant Hill Road and Pine Ridge Circle. According to troopers, the woman was trying to cross Pleasant Hill Road without using a crosswalk or intersection. Authorities said the woman was struck by a sedan and pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers are still investigating the crash.
Eustis police searching for missing 21-year-old woman
The Eustis Police Department is seeking a 21-year-old woman who went missing on Saturday. Police are searching for Shamierra Tashawn James, who was last seen at 4 a.m. Saturday sneaking out of her bedroom window in the group home in the 2000 block of Meadowside Drive, police said. James has been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and is on medication, police said. James is 5-feet, 4 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds, police said. 16-year-old accused of killing girlfriend’s aunt at Avenue Apartments near Ocoee
OCOEE, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend’s aunt at an Orange County apartment complex, deputies said Tuesday. Michael Lecorn was arrested in the shooting of 41-year-old Fonda Gandy, who was wounded around 10:55 p.m. Sunday at the Avenue Apartments off Vizcaya Road near Ocoee. That woman was also shot at when she was attempting to leave the apartment but she wasn’t injured, deputies said. Records show that 14 casings and one live round were found near the bottom half of the stairs and the living room. Mikayla Dahl, who lives at the apartments, said she saw a large crime scene at the complex.
Florida couple tries to solve Christmas card mystery
TAMPA, Fla. – A couple near Tampa is looking for the name of an 85-year-old woman who sent them an unsigned Christmas card detailing the good times she spent in their house when she was a child. The woman wrote that some of the best years of her life were spent in the house in the Seminole Heights neighborhood. `I’ll be home for Christmas -- if only in my dreams,’” the woman wrote. That’s a lot of memories,” Beauchamp said. The couple sent a card back to the address where they believe the woman may live.
Florida woman, 26, killed when car strikes tree in Orange County
A Florida woman is killed in a crash in Orange County. A 26-year-old Tampa woman was killed early Monday when her car struck a tree in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The fatal single-vehicle wreck was reported around 2:45 a.m. on Winter Garden Vineland Road at Jacaranda Boulevard near Orlando. The FHP said the woman was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla north on Winter Garden Vineland Road when the vehicle left the road for an unknown reason and collided with a tree. The woman, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.
Woman kills live-in boyfriend after tomahawk incident, says it was self-defense
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A Daytona Beach woman told police she was in bed late Christmas Eve when her live-in boyfriend raised a tomahawk over her -- so she shot the man to death, she told detectives. It was in self-defense, the woman told investigators, as she feared Sorrell was about to strike her with the tomahawk as he held it over his head, the news release said. Deputies went to their home in October after the woman reported Sorrell was wearing military gear and carrying around a gun. No one was injured in that incident; the woman told deputies Sorrell was protecting the home and she did not feel threatened by him, officials said. The deadly shooting remains under investigation, and no further information or records are available for release, according to investigators.
19-year-old Orlando woman killed in rear-end crash on Florida Turnpike
A 19-year-old Orlando woman was killed Tuesday night when her car was rear-ended from behind on the Florida Turnpike in Orange County, troopers said. The fatal crash was reported in the southbound lanes of the turnpike near John Young Parkway. The FHP said the woman was driving a Scion xB when a Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 41-year-old St. Cloud man, failed to slow for an unknown reason and struck the back of her car, which then crashed into a barrier wall. Cloud man was not injured.

She called the rescue organization 1300Koalaz to help her remove the misplaced marsupial. When they answered the call, they originally thought it was a prank, but the organization arrived to remove the female koala from the tree. She is now climbing a tree outside the house she broke into.
Boyfriend accused of setting Florida woman on fire
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A woman is in critical condition with burns over her entire body after being set on fire by her boyfriend in her South Florida home, sheriff’s officials said. A neighbor heard the woman screaming for help on Monday afternoon and called 911. “She’s burnt.”Broward Sheriff's deputies found the woman in Lauderdale Mobile Home Park around 4:30 p.m. Monday. Investigators said Jimenez-Cortes poured a flammable liquid on the woman and lit her on fire with a cigarette, the newspaper reported. A lawyer for Jimenez-Cortes wasn’t listed on records.
Child not wearing seat-belt killed in Marion County crash, troopers say
MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol said a child and 40-year-old woman have died after a crash in Marion County. The crash happened just before 8 p.m. Friday near Northwest 100 Street, just east of NW 49 Avenue Road. According to troopers, the woman was speeding on Northwest 100 Street when she crossed over the centerline and eventually lost control. Troopers said there were two children, not wearing seatbelts inside the car. Troopers said no one inside the car was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
57-year-old woman dies in single-vehicle crash on I-95, troopers say
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A woman was killed Thursday when the car she was driving crashed into a guardrail and a concrete barrier wall, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the 57-year-old woman was driving a sedan southbound on Interstate 95 at about 4:40 p.m. when she left the roadway and struck a guardrail then traveled across the southbound lanes and hit a concrete barrier wall near mile marker 235. The Titusville woman died at an area hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
Clermont woman killed in crash after hitting power pole, troopers say
CLERMONT, Fla. – A 28-year-old Clermont woman was killed in a crash Sunday after she lost control of her car and hit a power pole, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The fatal crash happened around 5:25 p.m. at County Road 561A and Lakeview Drive, according to the FHP crash report. 30-year-old woman killed after running in front of tractor-trailer, troopers said
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 30-year-old woman is dead after troopers said she was hit by a tractor-trailer truck. Troopers said the tractor-trailer was driving east on I-4 when the woman ran out in front of the truck. According to officials, the woman had previously stabbed a man in a car on the shoulder of I-4. Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said the woman and a 27-year-old man were driving east on I-4 when the two go into an argument. The man pulled the car onto the shoulder, and officials said the woman broke a bottle and struck the man.
20-year-old woman ejected during fatal I-4 crash, troopers say
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A 20-year-old woman who was ejected when the vehicle she was in overturned on Interstate 4 died at the scene of the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said a man was driving a pickup truck on I-4 in Osceola County at about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday when he lost control for an unknown reason, left the roadway, struck a center guardrail and overturned. A 20-year-old woman in the passenger’s seat was ejected during the crash, records show. She died at the scene. The driver, whose age was not available, was taken to an area hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
Woman drowns in pool of Orlando hotel, deputies say
ORLANDO – A woman drowned in a pool Saturday at the Clarion Hotel on International Drive, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said the woman was found face down at the bottom of the pool and after attempts to revive her, she was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The woman has not yet been identified, deputies said.

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A 27-year-old St. Cloud woman was killed in a rollover crash Thursday morning in Osceola County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Investigators are unsure when exactly the crash took place, but a witness spotted the woman’s SUV around 8 a.m., according to the FHP. According to troopers, the woman was driving an SUV north on Canoe Creek Road near Landing Road when she failed to follow a turn and drove off the road. Troopers said the SUV flipped into a water-filled ditch.
Woman, 73, fatally struck in Daytona Beach
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A 73-year-old woman was hit and killed Monday afternoon while crossing a street in Daytona Beach, police said. According to Daytona Beach police, witnesses said the woman was crossing the road from east to west when she was knocked to the ground by a silver 2016 Dodge Ram that was making a right turn from eastbound Magnolia. The woman suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center, where she died, police said. Authorities said the woman appeared to be walking diagonally toward a crosswalk, which was about 25 feet away, when she was hit by the pickup. The driver, an Ormond Beach man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, officials said.
Woman drowns after falling off jet ski on Lake Bryan, deputies say
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A woman drowned Friday afternoon when she fell off her jet ski while riding in Lake Bryan, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office and Orange County Fire and Rescue responded to a drowning at the lake around 2:50 p.m. on Friday. The 49-year-old was taken to Dr. Phillips Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Lake Bryan is located behind several resorts along east of Interstate 4 and west of International Drive. No other information was immediately available.
Woman, dog evacuated from home after fire, authorities say
A woman and her dog had to be evacuated from a home after a fire, according to Orange County Fire Rescue. A possible cause of the fire was a lightning strike because the woman said she heard a loud bang and saw a bright flash, according to authorities. The home is located in the 5000 block of Barma Court. Authorities said there were no injuries and the fire was extinguished, but there was damage inside the home.

64-year-old woman hit, killed by motorcycle in Orange County
ORLANDO, Fla. A 64-year-old Orlando woman was struck and killed by a motorcycle late Monday while trying to cross a road in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The fatal crash was reported around 11 p.m. on Colonial Drive near Old Cheney Highway. The FHP said a 26-year-old Orlando man was driving a motorcycle west on Colonial and struck the woman who was walking in an unknown direction. The woman was taken to a hospital, where she later died, according to the FHP. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, suffered minor injuries, according to an FHP report.
