A motorcyclist died following a crash with a vehicle in Port Orange on Sunday evening, according to the Port Orange Police Department. He was pronounced dead at Halifax Hospital following an accident at the intersection of Nova Road and Sleepy Hollow Drive, police said. The passenger of the motorcycle is in stable condition at Halifax Hospital, while the driver of the car wasnโt injured, police said. The investigation is being conducted by the Port Orange Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit. Port Orange police said Heikka, who goes by the name Bob and has been with Volusia County Schools since 1989 and has taught at Creekside Middle School in Port Orange since 2002, was captured on surveillance video at an ATM near Canaveral Shores. On Monday, the Port Orange Police Department held a press conference hoping that by releasing new details, it will turn into some leads. Investigators said they have received numerous tips in the case, especially on the Port Orange police Facebook page. Officials said Heikka, who goes by the name Bob, has been with Volusia County Schools since 1989 and has taught at Creekside Middle School in Port Orange since 2002. He currenlty teaches business education, including digital information technology and keyboarding. Investigators said Heikka may be driving his white 2012 Chevrolet Impala with the Florida tag of KRZ-I78.
Woman accused of attacking acquaintance in Port Orange
PORT ORANGE, Fla. โ A woman attacked an acquaintance Wednesday at a home in the Sweetwater subdivision, according to the Port Orange Police Department. Police said they arrested Dana Reeves, 31, and transported the victim to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Attempted murder suspect arrested in Port Orange domestic violence arson
PORT ORANGE, Fla. A man wanted on an attempted murder charge has been arrested days after he was named as a suspect in what authorities called a domestic violence arson, according to the Port Orange Police Department. At the time, investigators said they believe the fire was tied to a domestic violence incident and was arson. The Port Orange Police Department later identified Raymond J. Garneau, 51, as a suspect in the case and issued a warrant for his arrest. Authorities did not provide any information as to why they believe Garneau is responsible for the fire or information as to his relationship with the victim. He was arrested Tuesday afternoon at a Super 8 hotel in Ormond Beach on charges of attempted murder, arson of an occupied dwelling, felony domestic battery and deprivation of access to 911.

Woman found dead in Port Orange home after call about smoke
PORT ORANGE, Fla. A call about smoke inside a structure led first responders to find a woman dead inside a home, according to the Port Orange Police Department. Police and Port Orange Fire Rescue responded to Bolton Drive around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday and found 67-year-old Elizabeth Adams dead. A news release did not indicate her cause of death. PORT ORANGE, Fla. โ Months after his death, the family of a man killed at a Port Orange intersection is pushing to make it safer. The family of 22-year-old Ryan Friend is fighting for a safer intersection after a driver crossed four lanes of traffic and struck Friendโs motorcycle at Nova Road and Miles Drive on Sept. 25. She claims the Port Orange Police Department did not thoroughly investigate her sonโs crash. โHe deserved the respect and the thorough investigation from the Port Orange Police Department and I just feel like he didnโt get it,โ she said. Police told the Friend family they will be standing behind them this weekend.
Missing Port Orange girls found, police say
PORT ORANGE, Fla. โ Four girls who had been missing for nearly a week were found Monday, according to the Port Orange Police Department. Heaven Akins, Destiny Thompson, Mandie Jefferson and Katrina Carroll had been missing since Wednesday after they were last seen near Spruce Creek High School. Police said they likely left the area voluntarily to travel to Orlando. Authorities said deputies with the Flagler County Sheriffโs Office found the girls and are interviewing them. No further details were immediately available.
