Orlando VA to host 2 walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinics
ORLANDO, Fla. โ The Orlando VA Medical Center in Lake Nona is hosting a pair of walk-in coronavirus vaccine clinics for eligible veterans. AdVeterans who receive care at the VA and who are also employed as firefighters, police and corrections officers, food and agriculture workers, U.S. Postal Service workers, manufacturing workers, grocery store workers and school staff could also receive the vaccine, even if they are younger than 65. Spots still available in COVID-19 vaccine trial for children, Lake Nona pediatrician says
LAKE NONA, Fla. โ Nona Pediatrics on Lee Vista Boulevard in Orlando is running a Moderna COVID-19 vaccine trial for children. The trial is at a practice in Lake Nona through Accel Research and the only location running the trial in Florida. Elfaki said itโs common to run several clinical trials in children for different medications from the flu to meningitis. โWe are developing treatments for our kids, you have to conduct clinical trials on them,โ she said. Accel Research is still actively recruiting for the Moderna trial for children through the end of this month.

Firefighters with Orange County Fire Rescue said things could have been worse if it wasnโt for a four-legged hero, Prada. The one-year-old poodle is credited for alerting her parents through a security camera, while they were at work. Gonzalez said the motion alert on their indoor Ring camera went off again 30 minutes later. But her life, thatโs something you canโt replace,โ Gonzalez said.
Lake Nona community supports family after fire damages home
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. โ Community members spent their Thursday helping to salvage items inside a home in Lake Nona after a house fire. Many McIntyre said she is a friend of the family and is taking part in the effort to help the family. Neighbors said that it is a close-knit community and will do everything they can to help the couple and their two sons get back on their feet. โItโs difficult, but you know we are grateful for all the kids, they are happy, healthy and nobody was injured. This is stuff we can just replace and rebuild, so we are just really grateful,โ McIntyre said.

While Lilium, the Munich-based company behind the technology, doesnโt call these flying wonders taxis itโs not a stretch of the imagination. The Lilium jet is under certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency and the FAA. Autonomous shuttles expand routes in Lake Nona
LAKE NONA, Fla. โ Since launching one year ago, BEEP, the autonomous shuttle company based in Lake Nona, announced that 16,000 passengers utilized the service, despite the pandemic pushing people to work from home and even halting the service for months earlier this year. News 6 first reported on BEEP in 2019 when first responders trained with the shuttles and when BEEP officially launched last September. In just the last two months, the Lake Nona company launched three new shuttle routes, totaling eight shuttles across four routes. Routes for BEEP autonomous shuttles in Lake Nona. While the shuttles can drive themselves, BEEP officials told News 6 that federal regulations dictate that a driver must operate the shuttles.
Orange County reopening task force set to meet for first time in three weeks
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. During a time when most restaurants are struggling to keep the doors open, owner Florencio Rodriguez of Don Julio Mexican Kitchen Tequila Bar is gearing up to open its fourth location in Lake Nona in two weeks. On Wednesday, the business owner said he will rejoin the 44-member economic recovery task force virtually to discuss reopening plans and recommendations. Since the last meeting on June 3, Orange County has seen coronavirus cases climb, a mandatory mask order enacted, and some closures. The mix of business, government, and health leaders will also discuss agenda items which include updates on the NBA and MLS. The NBA and MLS are moving forward with plans to begin their seasons in Orlando next month.
5 injured in SR-417 near Lake Nona
Five people were injured Sunday in a crash on State Road 417 near Lake Nona, officials said. The crash was reported in the southbound lanes of S.R. 417 near the Lake Nona exit. One of the victims was taken to a hospital in critical condition, officials said. Authorities closed all southbound lanes after the crash, but they were later reopened.

Boy bitten by venomous snake in Orange County

The snake bite was reported near Chelwyn Court in Hunters Creek. Orange County Fire Rescue said the boy, estimated to be about 14 years old, was taken to Nemours Childrenโs Hospital in Lake Nona. No other details, including the boyโs condition, have been released.

LAKE NONA, Fla. โ The Ronald McDonald House in Lake Nona is receiving a boost from a local partner as the organization makes changes to stop the spread of the coronavirus. โWhen this (coronavirus) crisis began, we reached out right away and said, โWhat can we do to help?โ And the immediate need, of course, was food. Chief development officer for Ronald McDonald Houses of Central Florida Jarrod Daab was ecstatic when they offered to help. At the Ronald McDonald House, visitor hours as well as volunteer groups have been suspended as federal leaders call for social distancing. Daab and those at the Ronald McDonald House are asking for support with the โShare A Mealโ program available at their website.
