Man fatally shot during Rainbow Gathering in Florida
MARION COUNTY, Fla. โ A man was shot and killed during a Rainbow Gathering in Silver Springs Friday night, according to the Marion County Sheriffโs Office. Deputies said they were called to the area of Northeast 196th Avenue Road at about 10:40 p.m. and found several bystanders tending to 41-year-old Larry DeWayne Dugger, who had been shot. AdVice reports Rainbow Gatherings take place each year. The gatherings are usually in national forests and tend to attract hippies, yogis and nudists, among others. Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to call Detective Billy Burleson at 352-368-3542 or to remain anonymous, call Marion County Crime Stoppers at 352-368-STOP.
Dozens of Orange County storage units targeted during burglary, deputies say
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. โ Nearly 100 storage units were burglarized over the weekend, according to the Orange County Sheriffโs Office. On Saturday deputies responded to Extra Space Storage on Woodland Lake Drive for a burglary call. Deputies were told several units had been targeted but after the initial investigation determined 94 units had been broken into and one vehicle had also been stolen. Explosion destroys 5 garbage trucks in Florida
PENSACOLA, Fla. โ An explosion and fire destroyed five garbage trucks and damaged two others at a sanitation complex in the Florida Panhandle. The flames erupted Sunday afternoon at the station in Escambia County, Emerald Coast Utilities Authority said in a statement. OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. โ An HOA president and manager used community funds to bail her boyfriend out of jail in North Carolina, according to the Osceola County Sheriffโs Office. Deputies said they arrested Sherry Maycumber Raposo, 42, on Thursday after financial crimes unit detectives discovered that she used money from the Turnberry Reserve HOA fund to post her boyfriendโs $25,000 bond. Victim tells horrifying details about beating over parking space at Florida Walmart
โAs I was parking, I heard a bottle hit the back of my car, so I called 911. The person that was first beating Pedro is believed to be the daughter of the woman who was driving. Pedro told Local 10 she is scared because she is a single mom with no family in the area. โMy knees are all bloodied from the pavement where I was dragged.โPedro said that the mother told the son to pull the license plate from the car. โThatโs what they were doing when I approached the vehicle.โ Police said the move was intentional so that no one could take note of the license plate number.
Tourist reports possible shark bite in Daytona Beach Shores
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. โ A tourist was possibly bitten by a shark Wednesday in Daytona Beach Shores, marking the third such incident in a two-day period. The victim, 48-year-old Eric Bowman, said he was swimming in waist-deep water at about 3:20 p.m. when he felt something bite his left foot then let go immediately after, according to Volusia County Beach Safety. On Tuesday, a 25-year-old surfer was bitten by a shark on his arm in Melbourne Beach. A few hours later, a shark bit a 15-year-old surfer on his hand in Ponce Inlet. The man required hospitalization while the teen did not.
All Seminole students must take first-quarter exams in person, district says
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. โ Parents of middle and high school students currently learning online through Seminole Connect have until Wednesday to let their principals know when theyโd like their student to come on campus after being required to take their nine-week exams in person. Seminole County Schools sent an email to parents to make them aware of the requirement last week and Lake Mary High School Principal Dr. Mickey Reynolds said parents immediately began reacting. โThat caused a little bit of a stir,โ Reynolds said Wednesday. โWe got a number of emails immediately saying, โI canโt, I donโt want my child to come to campus. No matter what school, we will work with you,โ she said.

100,000 restaurants close because of coronavirus pandemic
A new survey shows the coronavirus has left the restaurant industry in limbo. The National Restaurant Association released the results of its survey Tuesday. The group says nearly 100,000 restaurants have closed either permanently or for the long-term because of the pandemic. They found that most restaurants are still struggling, and they donโt expect their situations to improve. According to the National Restaurant Association, the industry is on track to lose $240 billion by the end of the year.
