Holiday may be piece to a 2nd basketball championship puzzle
“I’ve actually held them, so I don’t know if that’s bad luck or bad Juju or whatever, but they’re beautiful,” Holiday said. Now the guard for the U.S. men's basketball team is in position to have two pieces of championship hardware of his own. And if the Americans do win again, a big reason will be because Holiday was once again the final piece to a championship puzzle. Despite not even having 24 hours with the team, Holiday was the Americans' best player in their 83-76 loss to France in their opener with 18 points and seven rebounds. “I definitely wanted to be a part of the USA team and win the gold medal," Holiday said.wftv.com
US trio puts NBA Finals behind, turns focus to Olympic gold
Devin Booker, Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton were together on a plane to Tokyo, just days after they had played in the hard-fought NBA Finals. So, with all that time to kill on the way to the Olympics, how much talk was about the NBA Finals? I have a lot of respect for those guys and when you’re competing at the highest level, it doesn’t always go your way,” Booker said. The opening loss could make things more difficult for the Americans, but Middleton and Holiday know about digging out of tough spots. The Bucks overcame 2-0 holes in the second round and then again in the NBA Finals.wftv.com
If shots don't fall in Olympics, not a surprise when US does
The U.S. had five attempts on the pivotal possession of its latest basketball failure and came up empty on all of them. It’s accumulation of everything that went on during the game.”The Americans undoubtedly had a difficult preparation for these Olympics. And they can't afford it to at this point, knowing they don't have much else they can call upon after such little time together. He was off on another with 25 seconds to go and Holiday missed one to end the possession. “We still have a chance to accomplish our goal," Holiday said, “and being consistent is the best way to do it."wftv.com
Analysis: Popovich has to love play from Olympians in finals
They all say they’re going to honor the commitment to play, even though the finals will have just ended and then a flight halfway around the world awaits. “I have watched the games,” Popovich said a few days ago when asked if he’s watching the NBA Finals while on USA Basketball duty in Las Vegas. Middleton, Holiday and Booker won’t be on that flight; they’ll still be at their real jobs. They’re going to have to come in and play.”True, even a successful coach like Popovich isn't sure how this will work. But if Holiday, Middleton and Booker bring this form to Tokyo, the struggling Americans could be just fine.wftv.com

(AP Photo/Ross D. Franklin) (Ross D. Franklin)PHOENIX — (AP) — Jrue Holiday seized his chance to give the Milwaukee Bucks the lead in the NBA Finals. Holiday's steal and alley-oop pass to Giannis Antetokounmpo for a dunk sealed a wild Game 5 and gave the Bucks a 123-119 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night. The Bucks fought their way out of an early 16-point hole by flirting with the best-shooting night in NBA Finals history, but then won it by making a huge defensive play for the second straight game. The Bucks made 32 of 45 shots in the middle two quarters, outscoring the Suns 79-53 during that stretch.wftv.com
With Suns' stars rolling, Bucks must be better in NBA Finals
NBA Finals Basketball Phoenix Suns' Deandre Ayton (22) attempts a shot ahead of Milwaukee Bucks' Brook Lopez (11) during the first half of Game 1 of basketball's NBA Finals, Tuesday, July 6, 2021, in Phoenix. When all three are rolling the way they were in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, it’s easy to see why this could finally be the Suns’ championship chance. But the Bucks certainly can expect better from Holiday, who missed 10 of his 14 shots and finished with just 10 points in the Suns' 118-105 victory. Budenholzer said that's the challenge of getting three players going at once. The Bucks eventually got through those series and the Suns expect them to be better in Game 2 of this one.wftv.com
Commitment to Olympics not a distraction for Bucks' guards
Hawks Bucks Basketball Milwaukee Bucks' Khris Middleton shoots past Atlanta Hawks' Bogdan Bogdanovic during the first half of Game 2 of the NBA Eastern Conference basketball finals game Friday, June 25, 2021, in Milwaukee. Milwaukee’s starting guards — Middleton and Jrue Holiday — plan to play for USA Basketball in the Tokyo Olympics that start next month, yet both insist that isn’t distracting them from the Bucks’ quest to win the franchise’s first NBA title in 50 years. The Bucks are in the Eastern Conference finals against Atlanta; the Suns are facing the Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference finals. Middleton, Holiday and Booker are planning to join the team once their NBA seasons end. USA Basketball will get them to Tokyo separate from the rest of the Olympic team if that’s what ultimately is required.wftv.com
