Richards is accused of targeting around 40 vehicles at seven area hotels and a beach parking lot overnight into Wednesday morning. Video: Florida driver crashes into cop car during DUI traffic stop, police say
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. โ A driver was so drunk that he backed into a patrol car during a DUI traffic stop and then denied ever doing it, according to the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety. Records show an officer spotted a green Honda going 54 mph in a 35 mph zone and pulled the driver over around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday. The driver of the Honda, 33-year-old Siang Thang, seemed โin a dazeโ and wasnโt initially responsive when the officer ordered him out of the vehicle, according to the affidavit. Records show Thang admitted to speeding but denied crashing into the patrol vehicle and seemed surprised when he saw the vehicleโs damage. A field sobriety test was conducted, which he failed, although he was able to recite the alphabet, the affidavit said.

Officials received several 911 calls Sunday around 9:30 p.m. from the 2200 block of South Atlantic Avenue. Callers described a vehicle repeatedly ramming into another vehicle and a woman screaming for help. Video from bystanders shows what happened after the suspect rammed the victims' in their car. Guitar instructor accused of molesting 14-year-old girl may have other victims
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. โ A guitar instructor is accused of molesting a 14-year-old girl, according to the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety. David Benjamin, 68, of Daytona Beach Shores, was arrested Tuesday and is facing charges of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child and false imprisonment. โWe are aware Benjamin owns other residences in the area, including apartments at Castaways Beach Resort," according to a news release. Officials said if you have reason to believe your child was in contact with Benjamin and may be a victim to call investigators immediately. The suspect is currently in custody at the Volusia County jail with a bond of $30,000.
Teenage swimmer gets caught in rip current at Volusia County beach
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. โ A teenage swimmer was rescued Friday afternoon after he got caught in a rip current in Daytona Beach Shores, according to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue. Officials said it was red flag conditions and the 17-year-old boy was swimming in an unguarded area at about noon when he started to struggle. As of 5 p.m., the boy was still receiving treatment. Man accused of rupturing spleen of victim who bumped into him while playing pool
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. โ A man got so upset that another man bumped him while playing pool that he attacked the victim from behind, rupturing the victimโs spleen and fracturing multiple ribs, according to Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety Department. The 65-year-old victim said he didnโt know why Kress hit him and his only explanation was that he might have bumped into him while he was drinking and playing pool. Records show the victim suffered a rupture spleen, which had to be surgically removed, and five fractured ribs. When he was interviewed on Sept. 29, Kress said the victim was intoxicated and as a result, lost his balance and โlandedโ on him, records show. He denied causing the serious injuries the victim suffered but admitted that he left the bar because he was afraid he would be arrested.
Tourist reports possible shark bite in Daytona Beach Shores
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. โ A tourist was possibly bitten by a shark Wednesday in Daytona Beach Shores, marking the third such incident in a two-day period. The victim, 48-year-old Eric Bowman, said he was swimming in waist-deep water at about 3:20 p.m. when he felt something bite his left foot then let go immediately after, according to Volusia County Beach Safety. On Tuesday, a 25-year-old surfer was bitten by a shark on his arm in Melbourne Beach. A few hours later, a shark bit a 15-year-old surfer on his hand in Ponce Inlet. The man required hospitalization while the teen did not.
Video: Drunk driver crashes into parked patrol car, police say
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. A driver who admitted to drinking multiple glasses of wine along with her prescription medication crashed into a parked patrol car as two teenage girls were standing outside of it, according to the Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety Department. Officers were speaking with two teenage girls involved in a retail theft on Atlantic Avenue around 2:45 a.m. Monday when a white Volkswagen crashed into the parked patrol car, records show. Body camera video from the incident shows one of the girls who was leaned against the hood of the patrol car fell to the concrete as a result of the crash. A blood alcohol content test performed at 5:02 a.m. yielded results of 0.113 and a second test performed a few minutes later yielded results of 0.116, according to the affidavit. Police said the patrol car was totaled.
