Park outside: Kia recalls nearly 380,000 vehicles for fire risk
DETROIT โ Kia is telling owners of nearly 380,000 vehicles in the U.S. to park them outdoors due to the risk of an engine compartment fire. AdThe recall comes after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating Kia and Hyundai engine fires in 2019. Kia was to pay $27 million and invest $16 million in safety performance measures. Another $27 million payment will be deferred as long as Kia meets safety conditions, NHTSA said. AdEngine failure and fire problems with Hyundais and Kias have affected more than 6 million vehicles since 2015, according to NHTSA documents.
Mercedes recalls vehicles for emergency-call location error

The recall comes after Mercedes-Benz learned of a crash in Europe where the automatic emergency-call system sent the wrong position of the vehicle. The recall covers many vehicles from the 2016 through 2021 model years, including those classed CLA, GLA, GLE, GLS, SLC, A, GT, C, E, S, CLS, SL, B, GLB, GLC, and G. The company's Daimler Vans also announced recalls of 2016-2020 Metris vehicles and 2019-2020 Sprinter vehicles. Mercedes-Benz said that it will notify affected owners and update the software systems at no charge, according to filings with the U.S. Department of Transportation.

ORLANDOa, Fla. โ Publix is recalling several products containing butternut squash over fears they could be contaminated with Listeria. The recall covers five products containing butternut squash from Pero Family Farms. Publix is also recalling three of its Steam In Bag products containing butternut squash. Company officials say those products were sold between Jan. 3, 2021, and Jan. 14, 2021. Customers who purchased any of the recalled items can return them to any Publix store for a refund.
Volkswagen recalls Beetles to replace Takata air bag inflators
DETROIT โ Volkswagen is recalling over 105,000 Beetles with faulty Takata front driverโs air bags that can explode and hurl shrapnel. Dealers will replace the front driverโs air bags at no cost to owners starting on Feb. 12. But itโs recalling them at the behest of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which is concerned that the air bags could explode over time. Exploding Takata inflators caused the largest series of auto recalls in U.S. history, with at least 63 million inflators recalled. About 100 million inflators have been recalled worldwide.

The seat belt recall covers 624,000 2019 through 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups. GM said the seat belt brackets may not have been secured to the frame, so the belts may not hold people in a crash.
3.5 million vehicles on Florida roads have open airbag recalls
ORLANDO, Fla. โ The surge of open recalls for faulty Takata airbags in Florida has jumped to 3.5 million vehicles, up by roughly 300,000 since 2019, according to Carfax. โA lot of people donโt know they have an open recall on their vehicle. The Takata airbag recall is considered to be the largest vehicle recall in United States history. In 2019, there were 966 safety recalls affecting more than 53 million vehicles and items of motor vehicle equipment in the United States. They can use NHTSAโs Recalls Lookup Tool to check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for any open recalls, including Takata recalls.
Over 140,000 candles sold at Dollar Tree recalled for fire hazard
Before you light any candles this holiday season, you should check where you bought them first. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall on Adcoโs Sure Scents Candles sold exclusively at Dollar Tree. Dollar Tree sold more than 143,000 candles labeled with the names peaceful stream and moonlit waves. Consumers are urged not to light the candles and to call Dollar Tree for a refund at 800-876-8697. Ring recalls smart doorbells after dozens catch fire

The company says it has received nearly two dozen reports of fires that resulted in eight people suffering minor injuries. Regulators say the battery can overheat if the incorrect screws were used during installation. The recalled doorbells have the model number 5UM5E5. The $100 doorbells were sold nationwide from June 2020 to October 2020.
Yeti recalls nearly 250,000 mugs over burning hazard
If you bought a Yeti mug with a slider lid recently, listen up. The company is recalling nearly 250,000 of those mugs because you could end up getting burned. Air bag fragments kill Volvo driver, touching off recall
DETROIT โ Metal fragments from an exploding air bag inflator killed the driver of an older Volvo, touching off a U.S. recall of up to 54,000 cars, regulators said Saturday. NHTSA said the ZF/TRW inflator rupture that caused the death is the only known incident worldwide. The problem caused the largest series of auto recalls in U.S. history, with at least 63 million inflators recalled. NHTSA said Saturday that the ZF/TRW inflators did not use ammonium nitrate to inflate the air bags. Volvo says in documents posted by NHTSA that registration data found about 13,800 of the recalled cars are still in use.
Cottonelle flushable wipes recalled due to possible bacterial contamination
A concern over contamination from a type of bacteria that could cause an infection in immunocompromised people has prompted a recall of some Cottonelle flushable wipes. A recall notice was recently posted on Cottonelleโs site, letting consumers know that some Cottonelle Flushable Wipes and Cottonelle GentlePlus Flushable Wipes that were sold throughout the country did not meet the companyโs standards. โThe affected product could show the presence of a bacterium (Pluralibacter gergoviae) which naturally occurs in the environment and in the human body. The notice points out the recall and possible contamination are not at all related to COVID-19. Consumers can click here to use the lot number checker to see whether their wipes are affected.
Peaches linked to salmonella outbreak in 9 states
Tainted peaches could be the cause of a salmonella outbreak in nine states. More than 60 people were sickened from the bad fruit. The bagged peaches were reportedly sold under the Wawona brand name at Aldi stores in 16 states starting in June. The grocery store chain has recalled the peaches in the states affected. The FDA is urging anyone who bought the peaches to throw them out.
Onions used by Hello Fresh voluntarily recalled for possible presence of salmonella
According to the Food and Drug Administration, a potential presence of salmonella bacteria could be found in onions included in some of the meal kits. The FDA is asking anyone using the service to discard all onions received from May 8 through July 31, 2020. Health officials link US salmonella outbreak to red onions
Federal health officials say an outbreak of salmonella infecting nearly 400 people in more than 30 states has been linked to red onions, and identified a California company as the likely source. This recall would include red, white, yellow, and sweet onions from Thomson International, the agency said. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that Salmonella Newport has sickened 396 people and landed nearly 60 in the hospital. There have been no deaths linked to the outbreak, which was first identified July 10 and has since grown. The Public Health Agency of Canada is also investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Newport illnesses that have a genetic fingerprint closely related to the U.S. outbreak, that agency said Thursday.
Volvo Cars recalls nearly 2.1 million cars worldwide
COPENHAGEN โ Volvo Cars said Wednesday that it is recalling nearly 2.1 million vehicles worldwide as a preventive measure after the company discovered that a steel wire connected to the front seat belts can be weakened. The front seat belts are anchored to the car via this steel cable, press spokesman Stefan Elfstrom told Swedish public radio. No current models are included in the recall. There have been no reports of injuries or accidents linked to the fault. Volvo Cars has been owned by Chinaโs Zhejiang Geely Holding Group since 2010.
Publix recalls salad due to unlisted ingredients
Supermarket giant Publix is recalling a salad product because it may contain ingredients not listed on the label. The recall is for Fresh Express 11.5 ounce Southwest Chopped Kits with specific production and UPC codes. Publix issued the recall due to the presence of undeclared wheat, soy, cashews, and coconut, which could cause allergic reactions in some. The affected units were distributed between June 12 and 18 and have a June 29 use-by date. They were distributed in Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
91,000 Jeeps recalled over transmission issue
ORLANDO, Fla. Fiat Chrysler is recalling 91,000 Jeep Cherokees over fears the SUVs could lose power while moving. The recall involves Cherokees from the 2014-2017 model years. In addition to losing power, the company says the parking function may also not engage which could lead to a roll-away crash. Fiat Chrysler says recall notices will be sent to Jeep owners starting next month.
