A 19-year-old Orlando woman was killed Tuesday night when her car was rear-ended from behind on the Florida Turnpike in Orange County, troopers said. The fatal crash was reported in the southbound lanes of the turnpike near John Young Parkway. The FHP said the woman was driving a Scion xB when a Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 41-year-old St. Cloud man, failed to slow for an unknown reason and struck the back of her car, which then crashed into a barrier wall. OKAHUMPKA, Fla. โ A Florida Department of Corrections inmate attacked a corrections officer along John Young Parkway Thursday and fled in a vehicle before crashing in Lake County, according to the Orange County Sheriffโs Office. The incident happened around 12:52 p.m. at North John Young Parkway and East Way Expressway when the inmate hit a corrections officer with a shovel and then stole his agency truck, according to the sheriffโs office. Construction begins on 66-acre park at Orlandoโs Packing District
ORLANDO, Fla. โ Local leaders came out to Orlandoโs new Packing District Thursday to commemorate the start of construction of what will be a 66-acre park that will help transform what once was a predominant industrial area. The space will also house Orlandoโs Tennis Centre featuring more than a dozen new courts, plus walking and biking trails. Crews outside continue to redevelop Princeton Street down to four lanes of traffic. Dyer told News 6 he expects the park to be completed sometime during summer 2021.

2 arrested in double-fatal shooting on Orange Blossom Trail
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. โ Orange County homicide detectives have arrested two men they believe are connected to a double-fatal shooting on Orange Blossom Trail earlier this month. The double-fatal shooting happened June 11 near the Raceway Motel in the 4700 block of North Orange Blossom Trail near John Young Parkway. The Orange County Sheriffโs Office said deputies responded to an aggravated battery call and Orlando police officers informed them there were two victims with obvious trauma to their bodies. The man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said. On Wednesday, Orange County homicide detectives arrested James Eckford Jr., 25, and Glen Johnson, 20, in connection with the case.

Kenny Webster said he was at the Raceway Motel on the corner of Orange Blossom Trail and John Young Parkway when he heard multiple gunshots. โAs soon as they opened the door and I stepped in we heard shots and all of us dropped to the ground,โ he said. Southbound lanes of North Orange Blossom Trail from Parkway Center Court to John Young Parkway reopened around 6:45 a.m. Friday.
